Great and FAST response guys(gals). I'm shifting my spending plans towards the ST10. I need to ride one to get the final impetus. I've watched several videos but have yet to feel that the acceleration and power of the bike is a match for the R1200GS. I'm reading that it is more gratifying on the ST10 but I'm not seeing that translate into the videos.
Anyone have any vids where the ST10 rider is pushing the bike(I don't mean in a failed final drive kind of way)- really expressing the bike's carving and speed abilities. I'm very impressed by the R1200GS here: BMW GS 1200 filming Multistrada 1200S with Termi from iphone 4 in Spain MCN

This one is great but I still don't feel the acceleration is as gritty as the R1200GS:

Thanks all.

A video will not give you the true feel of the bike. Get a test ride in.
This bike is very nimble for it's size and weight.

I had the the pleasure of a couple of crotch rockets trying to loose me on a road that I grew up on.
After the second set of corners afters the straight stretches the rear rider sat up and looked back at what I was riding.
I took that as a compliment. :)

Still hope to see a video of ST10 riding hard like a sportbike.

Ryan,

You pulled one of my favorite videos. Word I heard was that this guy is a former pro racer are something related - i don't know. Which is really cool, I'd love to see him do htis on the GS or the ST10. Certainly, he'd uh inspire- a lot of sports bikers who mispiercieve the guts of some of these touring bikes. I keep seeing it, that it's the rider and not the bike; no disrpect to the riders who have been so kind to post videos of there ST10 riding.

I got a chance to ride the dragon at 15 mph behind a big rig and two officers of the slow.

Still Waiing on that "I have to clock out early to go ride after seeing that" video of the ST10 defying gravity and bending time.

lapi, if you are looking for brilliant on road corner carving ability and pants filling acceleration , just get the Multi,

If you want great on road and great off road and a bike that just gets out of your way and lets you ride and enjoy the journey, get the s10.

If you like swapping shocks and fixing and fiddling and shed time and spending money with the occasional ride thrown in, get the BMW. :p

Pretty simple choice really. ;D

Ya. I wouldn't let a video of a bike influence my decision on a bike purchase. Go ride one, if there's a dealer in your area offering test rides and see if you like it.

Frankly, for 98% of the people on this forum the bike (GS or ST10) won't be the limitation. :)

Coming off a 950 sm, fjr and 520exc sm I feel the Super ten handles pretty good. It is better than i expected, but doesn't give me a lot of feedback from the front end. It handes good enough to get you in trouble with the po po.

I agree! Most folks can't ride any bike to it's full potential including me. I think the Big XT is on par if not better than the GS in most areas.

lapi,

In my opinion the suggestions and comments made thus far are spot on. I have a BMW GSA and the new ST. I have years of BMW experience and this is my second

Which handles best? Both just different
Which has the most power? Toss up.
Which has best ride? BMW
Which has the best feeling motor? ST
Best brakes? BMW
Feels most planted? ST
Best riding position? Pickem
Most fun? ST
What am I going to ride to Utah from Dallas?
Super Tenere

Hope this helps.

Rynn,

I would agree that both work very well indeed as far as which is best in that oops moment? For me it's the BMW.

The GS and ST run the same tires and the tires are the limiting factor. Well, after the rider of course.

Engine-wise, when the GS is in the upper power range, it goes but sounds like it's really working. The ST LIKES to be revved and encourages it on a twisty road.

As for the ABS, I was on a rutted gravel road the other day when a goat jumped out in front of me and I grabbed too much lever. The GS would've stopped with drama. The ST just stopped. I like the ABS on the ST much much more than those on the GS.

You mentioned you have a Wee and we've been riding my son's Wee and my ST back to back. The ST is indeed heavier, but all around more planted, comfier, faster, etc. The ABS and TC make the ST worlds better on loose footing and in the rain. You'll enjoy it.

hmmmm...several thoughts:

1. Glad to hear you had fun. Wait'll you flatten the seat and put on a bigger windshield.

2. You're being assimilated. Relax.

3. Plenty of folks here know the wife conversation very well that probably followed.

4. Told ya so. :p

Yeah, despite all the fun I had learning a little about the bike - it just feels safer to ride. Seems like with the handle bars raised a bit, seat flattend out the Saddlesore will be a breeze ! The Saddlesore on the VStrom was comfortable but will be more fun and comfortable on the ST10.
