How many gallons do you put in @ 300km? You know you have at least 5.5 gallons or 21 litres. Unreachable fuel, air pocket, nozzle, blah, blah... 300km is 186 miles for us. That usually leaves in the neighborhood of a gallon in the tank when the count up starts.
Average 40mpg=4.6 gallons used. One gallon left(@least). That's another 40 miles, or 60 some-odd kilometers. So figure 220 miles or 350km before you're sucking air. That's just a good round number. Some days you'll get better mileage, some days worse. You are going to have to do the math for your application. Your wrist might be averaging 36mpg... or 48. Many here, mine as well, will do 40mpg day in and day out.
Well I just put in 17.4 Liters of fuel at 287km on my most recent fill. So that means 4.6 liters left or just over a gallon of fuel. It was mixed driving on pavement, town and gravel roads. I know there are some areas where I will be stretching my fuel range, so I need to take a few factors such as elevation thru the mountains, wrist pressure, wind and hills. Thanks for the input Don, gives me a better idea on how this beast should behave.

The best I managed on last years trip to Prudhoe bay was the run from Coldfoot to Deadhorse 240 miles plus a bit of additional miles 420 or so kilometres at an average speed of around 60Kmh. Both bikes did the same mileage and did not run out of fuel. Carried an extra 6 or 7 litres that was never needed. I dont remember how much fuel was taken but seems to me we figured there were a couple of litres left. That was on regular fuel thats all you can get up there. Average seems to be on the hiway up to 350 km consumption of around 18 litres usually travelling at 110kmh actual 120 indicated. For me has noted changed very much since new. We had changed the CO setting before last years riding but no other adjustments have been done.

I think my average mpg gauge is broken... It won't go past 42mpg... Never seen it go past that...
LOL, keep it below 65 for the whole day. My meter was reading 49 some-odd the other day, got 53 doing the math at the pump. I've also not reset my avg meter for more than a year, keeps the numbers pretty stable. Not sure how Ron got that mpg at 75, I drop into the upper 30's.

I average 40 mpg, and rarely go more then 180 miles on a tank.
Definitely can't use my S10 for a touring bike...

Recently i did 3000km trip to Sicily (Italy) with my wife, Trekker trio and a tank bag. Of this 3000km (1865m) 1000km was on the highway, with speeds between 130-160km/h (80-100) indicated. The rest was a mix of everything. At the end i mesured overall consumption of 5,3 lit/100km or 44 mpg.
Not bad...

After the gen2 flash, I finally saw more than 175 miles before my reserve blinky started. Was always envious of folks that claimed theirs started blinking around 200.

Add to that, last weekend, I had to drive the Tenere like it was an F150. Exactly like one since the wife and kids (in the truck) were following me (on the bike) to a spot they didn't know the route. The slowest I have ever ridden on 2 wheels. I now realize 2 things:

1. I am almost always covering ground faster than everyone else. Even though I wasn't really trying to.
2. This bike gets amazing gas mileage at cage pace. 45-52mpg easily.

Regardless, I think I'm getting about 15-20 miles more before reserve riding my normal pace. I have to give the credit to the only change there is. The flash. Somewhere between 2-4 mpg.

I had a low of about 36 (using a calculator) and a high of 57 (IIRC) on my recent trip to Colorado. The 36 was coming across Kansas in a nasty cross/head wind. In the mountains of CO, I consistently got in the mid to upper 50's. I want to say that I actually got 59mpg once for a tank but that doesn't seem right and I know I saw several tanks with 57.

Also, I noticed that the lower the actual mileage is, the closer the avg mpg reads. In the 30's it was quite accurate. In the upper 50's it was fairly optimistic (4-5mpg).

Mileage definitely suffered into the wind and in the 75mph speed limit states.

Really? 3 hours isn't long enough to "tour"? Never find gas while out "touring" every 180 miles?

I've ridden to Texas from NJ through 20+ states...didn't have any trouble "touring" with 180 mile range.

LOL, I was going to say that I've been all over the west at 33mpg and 130 miles being well into reserve.

My Flash has definately helped, adding about 10 miles to the typical range to warning light, so about 3mpg up, with a lot more grunt, very happy with that ::013::

Following the Mrs at a steady pace (but she still passes quite a few cars, and cruises about 70mph on straights) I can now easily see upper 50's (on our larger Gallons) and on a 35 mile trip on a windng country route managed a new best of an indicated 64.5mpg.

I now get upper 40's in mixed commuting / narrow back lane messing about, and it is harder to drop it into low 40's than it used to be, will know a whole lot more after my upcoming tour of 3000+ miles where I will measure MPG each day on a wide variety of roads.

I'm getting much better fuel mileage thanks to the warm weather, big improvement over what I got during winter.

I finally hit 200+ miles before the fuel gauge began to flash...average MPG according to the computer was 51.5....at one point it showed 53 MPG. That's getting into the real of what my 650 Versys got.

There was very little (about6 miles) of interstate the rest was back roads with many hills and speeds between 30-55 MPH. Bike set on touring mode the whole time.

Are you using non-ethanol fuel by chance?

During the Big Sky Rally running 80ish on the interstate I was getting maybe 40. It seems that above 4000 rpm it really starts to drop off. If I stay under that; say 67 mph and below I get near abouts 50mpg. Riding through Yellowstone NP I averaged about 60mpg. This bike is very speed dependent IMO.
