From the service manual, code 42 is...
A) Rear wheel sensor, no normal signals are received from the rear wheel sensor
B) Neutral switch, open or short circuit is detected
C) Clutch switch, open or short circuit is detected
So check those 3 items, loose or broken or pinched wire.
There are 8 pages of instructions dealing with this code.

Did you have a recent rear tire change? I was with a friend with a S10 that spun the rear ABS plate as it was not located properly. This allowed the plate to rotate and rip the rear ABS sensor and wiring.

What you have to remember it says "Rear wheel sensor, no normal signals are received from the rear wheel sensor".
That does not necessarily mean it hasn't been sent. I had the a similar issue and bought a new sensor. In the end it was a workshop mistake with mixing up the wiring plugs.

I'm not saying your case could be the same but that the fault lies elsewhere. These sensors are pretty simple and unless they have some visual damage there is probably nothing wrong with them.
