So far I've tried the stock seat, Sargent, Laam and the latest, Seat Concept. None let me ride more than a few hours without aches starting to set in, usually around the 150 mile mark and getting worse from there.

It's a bit disappointing as on my other bikes (1100GS, R1100RT and Road King), I was able to get a great aftermarket seat on the first shot (Sargent, BMW touring seat and HD Sun Ray seat, respectively).

The reviews of the Saddlemen and Touratech seats haven't inspired me to shell out what they cost. Anyone have any other suggestions?

One major maker I don't see on your list yet is the Russell Day Long seat. Dunno if you'd looked at them, but they seem to get good reviews. I'm still using the stock seat myself.

I wish I had bought the Russell day long right off the bat. Wasted money on Seat Concepts, airhawks and others before I bit the bullet with the Russell day long. It was more than worth the process involved and would have saved me hundreds of dollars if I had bought it first. No doubt about it in my mind, best money I ever spent on any mod ever on any bike I ever owned. Custom built to fit my specs and it truly is a day long seat. Tank full to tank full all day long, no fatigue. Seat comfort in never an issue again for me. Being in Yokohama may be cost prohibitive for you so perhaps Checkswrecks has the best advice. Find a good custom upholsterer in you area and get them to build one for you. I feel your pain of having gone through several seat options and throwing good money after bad. Been there done that. I hope you can get it sorted because when you get it right, this bike really comes alive when you are totally comfortable. Good luck with your search.

Quit wasting your money on Seats and just buy a lambskin (My preference) or a padded ATV seat cover (Used a padded seat cover over a sergeant seat on the KLR, worked wonderful) I have also heard of guys using seat beads as well.

Edit: I have also used a regular padded seat cover on the Tenere, which worked wonderful until I transferred over to the Lambskin.

This should do ya

Way cheaper

I tried a sheepskin on the stock seat before investing in my first aftermarket seat, didn't help.

I also tried an Airhawk. That didn't help either.

I may try to rework the Seat Concepts seat locally but I'd hate to make it worse. The only custom seat shop that I know of is pretty much just into the basics, doing what you ask (widen/raise/lower) and using simple upholstery foam. It's not the same as stateside. The one company that does have a good rep charges $300 just to rework the foam and use the same cover, and want about a month to do it.... ::)

Russell Day Long is the most comfortable seat I've found, and like you, I've tried many. Including having a local seat guy build a custom seat from scratch while I was in the shop with him. Nothing worked for all day comfort like the Russell. Better yet, you can send the Russell back for adjustments (yes, this is a hassle, but patience will be rewarded with comfort!).

HOWEVER, there is no substitute for taking a 5 minute butt, water, and stretch break every 90 minutes. I know the IBA riders can't always do this, but your body will thank you for it long term.

Airhawk R.

don't get the regular one. The mistake people make with the air hawks, is that they inflate them fully. Go half way or less, that way you can actually move around the seat, and the air moves with you. The boys are getting squished, put more weight on the bum and vice versa.
Best part is, that I unhook it from my Ten, and hook it on my FZ.
I do run the first gen sargent (which is as comfortable as a park bench), but it is wider, and raised at the edges.

Are you sure your problem is the seat and not your seating position.

You could get some adjustable footrests, fore/aft/up/down and a set of rox risers and try different permutations which will allow you to vary the ergonomics of your total body position.

I'm not saying this woud be the solution but perhaps it's a better bet than throwing money at different seat options.

Give a try to changing your seating position, roll the bars up or down, add a riser, lower the pegs, etc....

As a last resort eat more burgers and add to your natural padding! ::025::

Everyone's butt is different...however that said I put a Russel Day Long on my bike and just did 2,440 in 7 days with one 600 mile day...I can honestly say my butt didn't hurt....I have used an Air Hawk, although and improvement is doesn't' compare to a RDL.

I've done the risers, currently using the Rox 2x2.

I think the SC seat is too hard. Like sitting on wood after a while. It's also too high. I like the seat in the high position for bar placement and knee comfort, but the SC is taller than the stock seat and the heat element I added raised it that much more. May skim off some foam or as SC for some softer foam.

I changed what I wore and fixed my problems. Aerostich Ad1's & Hanes X-temp synthetic drawers, did 3 days and 23 hours in the saddle with a Back-a-line brace and could have done it again on the stock seat.
