That's funny. I like my little "Final Drive Failure" writeup.

The funniest part of all this?

Yeah, that rubber plug is STILL missing. I even rode Will's Creek AGAIN, after.

Guys,

For those who are using silicone to hold the bung in place.... as the swing arm is alloy, I'd recommend using neutral cure silicone (as used for roofing, guttering etc) otherwise you risk serious corrosion of the alloy. I know it's powder coated but why risk it?

Glenn

BTW, mines done over 10,000 kms and is still there, just. I'll be siliconing mine in this weekend :)

I could be wrong, but I believe virtually all of the automotive RTV sold in the states is neutral cure too. I've used a lot of it on raw aluminum w/o any corrosion issues. In applications where I've had a chance to see it again after a few years and miles too.

Just checked mine. Almost 4 K miles on mine and its still there ::014::

However, its so loosely fitted and easy to pop out- its hard to believe it hasn't fallen off during one of my off road rides.

OK, check yours now if you haven't already ::009::

I am thinking at the next tire change I will slide/stretch an old bicycle/motorcycle inner-tube (strategically and precisely) cut down to slide snugly over the swing arm to cover retain the swingarm rubber plug. Cost = $0.00

The hole is drilled in the swingarm for the gas to escape during the welding process to make the swingarm. Simple.

Good to find this thread. Mine is still there though loose. One more item for the maintenance list.

I notified my dealer regarding the loose plug while they were doing the fuel pump seal recall and they cleaned and re-fitted the plug but still seemed loose.
They went ahead a ordered me a new one under warranty. I installed the new one and it seems a bit more snug but still not real tight.
I told the dealer I'd keep a eye on it and let them know if it ever become more of an issue.
