As I am always looking for an advneture and have been lucky enough to find a few. Since getting the S10 I have a few adventures conquered and still a handful more planned. Anyway, as the title says I am going to try to ride at least a day per month and today was the November day attempt and it was ugly, - 26 celcius, beautiful blue sky, fresh snow, icy roads and off I went. ABS and TCS is awesome but the snow was deep and the black ice ruthless, I dumped the bike a couple times and am now looking for tire suggestions. Are there studded or a soft winter tire for bike out there somewhere. I dropped the tires pressure to the point I was almost on the rims and it improved some traction but obviously performance not there.

My December ride is planned around town at christmas delievering some gift to friends kids. January a ride in Dawson while on an evnet up there. February a ride to Pelly Farms on another event, March on the Dempster and hopefully Ice road to Tuk, April likely Fraser summit while on a sledding trip. Most of the rides the bike will be trucked to the location and then ridden for a while.

Okay tire guru's if you have any thoughts on this let me know.

Thanks in advance

Damn, 'Dood .... good on you. I'm with you in spirit. Yeah, it was a cold sumbich today. At least the wind backed off and the sun came out. It soared up to almost -25 up here in the high country. Gonna be in the -30's tonight. Get some pics of all this nonsense ... uh, adventures. Be safe out there. R

Those are pretty long studs if the pictures are accurate. Not so good for a road ride, we can have a lot of pavement showing up here even with our annual snow cover. I wonder about drilling something like a Dunlop D606 or a TKC 80 for standard automotive type studs.

Gary, you should go in and talk with someone at Integra Tire and see if they still drill for studs. I have drilled winter boots and used an automotive stud installer to stud them before. ::017::

Troll, I agree those pics would wear quick, break off or push back into the tire due to bare roads.

I have a set of tires for my wr that I used some screw in studs used on snowmobile tracks. With a knobby tire you this works well. I think I am going to use some old worn down picks and and a tube. I am not looking to ride thousands of miles just a few short cruises.

Or rides as is with tire pressure down and just go at it with caution...

Not so sure brave or crazy are in the equation, just curious. I have the toys so may as well enjoy them while I can. I have always loved a challenge and adventure. On top of that, I had a brutal year of loss of a great brother in law, 2 good friends and a coworker all too young and in separate incidents. My brother in law and 2 buds were sledding and riding buddies, so many of my rides are for/with them. When the day comes I want the Adventure "to do" list to be short and mostly crossed off. I am also trying to teach my daughters(9 and 11) to enjoy life to the limits, clear and pave a different path and do the things that make you feel alive.

End of sermon, going to put on another pair of socks, brrrrr out today
