Replacing stock electrical outlet

On my past bikes including a 2012 Tiger Explorer I have used a BMW style power outlet usually unswitched so I could charge the battery or operate accessories (eg tire pump) without the ignition on.

Has any one simply removed the stock outlet a wired a Euro outlet directly to the battery (fused of course)?

I am aware that the stock cigarette style outlet is physically larger than a Euro outlet so I assume one would have to fab up some sort of cover plate to make up the size difference.

Comments, experiences and especially pictures would be appreciated.

In the electrical sub-board are a number of threads related to this. Go to that sub-board, or to the Home page, and do a search on the word Powerlet.

There is more than enough space on the opposite side of the dash to mirror the Aux. power outlet.

Nothing to fab just use a steeper drill bit and drill the size hole you need and fit whatever style outlet you want. the wiring can be neatly routed above the headlight and under the instrument cluster to the battery side of the bike.

I fitted a waterproof switched USB outlet on the left hand side of mine..

Coming out under the tank on the left side I have an unswitched SAE cable, when not in use it is tucked way out of site behind the frame/under the tank.

My pump and battery charger are both SAE, and I have a few adaptors SAE>12v cig.lighter and SAE>Powerlet/Euro-style for other uses.

I did something to cover all the bases. Not sure if they make one with euro specific plug, but worth checking EBay. Dash infill panel, made at home.
