I'm new to the Yamaha world. Is there a general rule of thumb when Yamaha announces its new model lineup? I'm not talking European release dates. I'm in the US and we're generally the last to know.

Triman,

I was at a Yamaha Demo event in Washington State this weekend. Test rode the R1, VMax, Stratoliner and the ST (reaffirming that is THE bike - although the VMax was a kick - in a straight line at least).
Got to talk to the reps and the Regional Manager. ::022:: The announcement for the 2013 models will be next Thursday (Sept 13). This has been said before in this forum Tried to get out them what would be the changes to the ST. "None. What is there to change?" was the reply. Really tried to dig. Don't think there will be an ABS switch. Sounds like it would be pretty much the same. They did admit that the locks on the panniers were not up to Yamaha quality. Be interesting to see, but they were pretty happy with the bike and its reception. He said they sold 1500 in the US this year.

The really interesting news is on the FJR. No one would say, except to smile and say: "We can't say". One guy actually disuaded a customer who was interested in buying a FJR 1300 ("Wait!"). FJR 1400 with crossplane shaft? It will be fun to see what exactly Yamaha is going to introduce.

Thanks guys. I did try a search before posting and nothing came up. So September is usually the month for Yamaha announcements? Just like Apple.

I hope so, I'd love to get one. Seems a natural. I hope it's no heavier than the current one. It'd be nice if it were lighter but those crossplane crank motors are heavy. Anticipation.....

"...but those crossplane crank motors are heavy."

They don't seem to be slowing down Josh Hayes that much, though! AMA Superbike races have become pretty boring over the last 3 years.
Going to be fun to hear what is coming on Wednesday!

"September 12th is the announcement of the Super Tenere 5 with a release date of September 21st. j/k"

So, I am assuming by "ST 5" you mean that the 2013 is the 5th "edition" since the Europe introduction in 2009 (09-13)? Is there any list of tweaks, reinforcements, modifications that Yamaha did to each subsequent edition through the years? There are ALWAYS necessary refinements needed as new models get shaken down by owners but I haven't seen any post on this. Going to be interesting as to what (if any) changes will be made to the 2013 model.

Super Tenere 5 was a JOKE with reference to Apple announcing the iPhone 5 on the 12th and releasing the iPhone 5 on the 21st.

Tim. Well I feel silly. Thought you were being like a Formula 1 team (Red Bull 4; McClaren 26, etc.) where they number each car by the year it has been with a manufacturer.
The important thing is that I will buy an ST this week, if there are no significant changes announced tomorrow. Keep us apprised. How are you getting to watch that Dealer video, anyway?

Hopefully, for you, they release the White version with many new extra's.
