Rear wheel splash guard

I've been thinking that my S10 could use a rear wheel splash guard similar to what I had on my old Mutlistrada so I decided to make one. I've still got a ways to go but it's coming along well so far.

I love a bit of 'homebrew' engineering, looking forward to how it comes out ::008::

You look like you possess the skillset, but I would be concentrating on making a more off road worthy "hugger". There is not much benefit in the piece you are making unless you want to shorten your rear fender and still keep your passenger's back dry, but if you can design a hugger with a little more tire clearance, that won't hit the underbody under full suspension compression, I bet if you made a mold, you could sell a bunch of them. :)

I found on my last bike that having one of these actually was a help at cutting down on the stuff that gets flung off of the wheel. I ran the bike with the piece removed for a while and did notice a difference. I probably will modify the rear fender a bit when I'm done with this piece. Although functional, I think the stock rear fender setup looks kinda big and "clunky".

looks like something I could do with my black PVC guttering ! Hey Bob?
Lol. PVC guttering is highly under rated... :D Have you tried it to channel rain from roof tops to the sewers. Heard it's pretty effective... I know.., what a waste of a material. ;)

In addition to the splash guard, I'm also working on a piece to finish off the dash area. I think the stock appearance of the dash needs needs some "dressing up". I need to fine tune the fitment a bit, but I like the way it's shaping up.

Nice! I'm wondering how you are attaching it to the bike, as it looks like you have it sitting on top of the stays, rather than underneath as most here have done. Are you planning on mounting anything to this panel?

Any concerns with wire or cable bundles rubbing and getting cut/frayed at full turns?

Originally I thought I'd mount it on top. But after seeing it in place, now I do plan to mount it underneath the stays. It looks much better that way.
I don't have any immediate plans to mount anything on it, although another 12 V socket might be nice?

So far it all looks OK, I'm not worried about anything rubbing. If it does, I'll just pull it back a bit with zip ties.

That dash panel will also help clean-up the airflow a bit that goes around the rider. I'm sure it will be quite noticeable at highway speeds and faster.

I wish the air flow was coming from there! Unfortunately, almost all of the air that comes up that way is from BEHIND the triple clamps, and good luck trying to stop that.

What materials are you using for the tire splash guard?
Carbon Fiber cloth with epoxy resin. I cut the pink insulation styrofoam into the shapes that I want, then use those pieces as plugs to layup the wet cloth on them. Once the c.f. is kicked, I melt away the foam with acetone.
The dash panel is 3 layers of 6K c.f. and epoxy laid up on a mirror to get a nice smooth finish.

Where do you get the cf cloth? Looked a few months ago for a project and couldn't find any where to source it. While I'm at it where did you get the pink foam?

Hard to believe you can't find cf cloth for sale, but here's a place to get you started. They have everything you need.

Here are a few instructional videos that might help.

Home Depot sells the foam.
