Well, a while back I got the dreaded rear wheel rim crack. It started leaking is how I found it. Well, I thought (mistakenly) that a good way to have it fixed would be to get it TIG welded. Had the welding done by a local shop for $50, and they did a great job. Rode around a bit and it seemed great. Until I went off-roading, hit a rock or something and now I have a bent rim there, where in retrospect I've destroyed the heat-treatment in that spot.
I've been looking for another used wheel to stick on there, was hoping to spend less than the $500 for the ones they want on ebay..I may have to go that route.
My other thought was to obtain a used cracked wheel, and stop-drill the crack and JB weld it. I bet that would be a good solution...
Lastly, the inner-tube option, at least temporarily. I've tried a tube in the past in the rear, and I seem to remember having great difficulties getting it to work properly. If I remember right, I gave up on that idea and just went with new rubber at the time.
Your thoughts and professional opinions are greatly appreciated.
