Anyone tried 75/140 in the rear diff?

Over on UKGSer they swear by it rather than the 75/90 .....

I've got a full1 Litre bottle of Castrol Syntrax GL5 Limited Slip 75/90 and a full bottle of the same 75/140

I gather that the LS oil would be fine and it is a slightly higher quality than the normal gear oil ::017::

In principle, LS oil can often be considered lesser, as its got some additives removed so they don't stuff up the clutch plates of an LSD. Works, but not as well as normal gear oil. As to the thicker oil being a benefit, what problem are you trying to fix? Might be an advantage for high speed running in a hot climate, but if so, wouldn't Yamaha have specced it?

I'm running 75w-140 in mine, mostly because that just what I happened to have on hand since I need it for my car. No noticeable difference or problem, been doing the same to my 150,000 mile ST1300. The LS stuff has a friction additive in it for the clutches in a LS rear end. The Tenere obviously doesn't need those additives but I don't think they do any harm either. I believe all 75w-140 lubes are rated LS.

Thanks for the replies...the main thing I was looking for is that using it would not do any harm....I was not thinking of using it to 'fix' an issue....seemed a shame to have a litre of both the 75/90 and tje 75/140 LS and not make use of them. ::003::
