I sure don't see it as racist, but living near Baltimore where the Freddie Gray death took place while he was in a police vehicle, I am aware that it is thought to be so by some people.

Yet another step in villainizing law enforcement. I best leave it at that. I am so glad I retired from it.

It would be easier to turn a blind eye to everything, but both of my shitlings decided to give me even more gray hair. . . . they're both cops.

It was a chore to limit my rant. Try as I might, everything that kept coming out was inflammatory, and slightly political, so. . . . I kept seeing Checkswrecks sharpening up his pruning shears, and left it where I did.

I am biased towards LE. (duh) And, there are bad apples. But, to label all LE for our bad apples, is just as bad as labeling everybody else for their bad apples.

Thanks!

This is Karens' Mom and she's sharp as a tack at 87. In her Norwegian accent her constant refrain is:
"People. They are all so different. Hmmm"
What she really means is "Why aren't they all like me with my beliefs?"
We just smile and roll with it.
;)

Every one has bad apples, but very few organizations are as aggressive about weeding them out as law enforcement is. I know, because of the position I was in, I participated in gathering evidence to get rid of them, and if it was a criminal act, put them in jail.

. . . ."People. They are all so different. Hmmm". . . .
People are different. Even all of us. We ride the same bike(s), but we're from all corners of the globe. But, we're intelligent enough, for the most part, to respect each others opinions. If a person is too "different". . . . well, that's their business.

Different doesn't have to be wrong/bad. But, more and more. . . . people are feeling that if your not with them, you're against them.

Ok I guess it’s my turn. We have come full circle. This is a HVAC RANT.

We purchased our home new. The heat went out a couple times. They fixed it under warrantee, but after a couple of years it keep doing it and it was now on my dime. Morris Jenkins are crooks. They wanted to replace a new Lenox system, and left it in a diagnostic mode the house got to 95 degrees, I made them send some one else. He was nice and explained what was going on. The Furnace’s water drain was freezing. Hvac is in the Attic. He added extra insulation. Did not work. I added a thermostat switched heat strip no insulation. We live in the south And might have a week of freezing temps. No problem in 5 years.

My ac drain line was getting clogged. The drain pan would fill and the backup drain would drain outside the house. The drain is under the gutter so you know when things are amiss, Shop vac / snake did not work. Youtube said try bleach. (Clears and kills algae build up.) Bingo every spring I would see the emergency back drain spewing water. Go in the attic and pour bleach in the drain line and good to go till next year.

I left the bleach bottle up in the attic sitting in my drain metal drain pan. What could go wrong. The bleach bottle failed and leaked all in my drain pan. Pain to clean and I did not do a very good job. Fast forward to 2 days ago. My wife wakes me at 2 am. Water is point out a Ceiling light. I go in the attic and the drain pain is not holding water. There are small holes where the bleach ate threw the metal. Cleaned the pan real good. Sanded and wire brushed, Epoxyed. When that sets going to seal with flex seal.

Why all this work. The Hvac sits on cinder blocks in the drain pan. I have a gas line and freon lines as well as a roof vent. Then there are the duck seals. Raising that thing was going to problematic. I need a 70 inch drain pan. No one has them ( 60 was the biggest I found) would have to get it from a Repair place and they only have metal ones. If I switched it out wanted a good quality plastic one. First world problem rant:

My buddy has a hookup with a restaurant meat supply guy.....been getting all kinds of good stuff in this crazy time in the world since the restaurants aren't using quite as much. I got a giant frozen pack of tri-tip, 12 pounds in total. Since they were frozen together in a large pack, I had to defrost them to get them apart and didn't think refreezing them was a good idea. What a difficult time it was seasoning, smoking and attempting to eat all of that tri-tip over these last several days.

But, that's the struggle I had to deal with. Rant off.

I feel your pain. After 14 years, the original AC system had to replaced. Since I decided to change brands, the heating portion needed to be replaced/matched to the AC. They came out, did the install, and everything was good. The following summer, I woke up to a small flood around the HVAC closet. (mine's not in the attic) I tracked the flooding cause to a clogged AC drain. There's another PVC pipe beside the drain. There's a float switch in it, that supposed to shut off the compressor when the water gets too high, and prevent the flooding issue. I had noticed that they had installed a "P-trap" into the drain. (the previous system was a straight shot outside; never had a flood or had to add anything to the pan or drain) As you already know, the p-trap allows the water to sit in there and make algae/sludge. Worse still, they had glued a cap on the vent; yours is open at the top.

Called them back out to fix the issue since it was less than a year old. They told me that it was my responsibility to keep the drain clear with bleach, which meant that the damage would not be covered by them. I requested that they remove the p-trap. . . . don't need it. I was advised that code required it so sewer gas wouldn't back up into the house. o_O I again told them it drains directly outside, and even showed them where. They refused to eliminate the p-trap, but did put a removable cap on the drain vent.

My flood damage consisted of a couple rows of my laminate wood floor swelling. Almost impossible to replace just the damaged rows. So I put some heavy, flat blocks on the affected rows. For the most part, it worked. But, it still pisses me off that it happened. Had they warned me in the first place, it could have prevented.

ARGHHHH.

The guy doing this (or another doing the same), is a reserve for the place I worked at before I retired. He has been offering the meat at cost for all the retirees, but will not send it to Tennessee from California. The restaurants he supplies are the like of Ruth Chris steakhouse...etc

Yes, likely same or similar guy. I got a bunch of those giant tomahawk steaks for an amazing deal. I'm trying to get some prime rib before the restaurants open up again.

I shared a lot of the tri-tip with friends, sliced up the cooked ones and then froze some.

This both a rant and a seeking of advise and opinions. First let me say I have enjoyed this forum immensely. I was looking forward to our rally in Arkansas. I have gotten to know a bunch of you over the last 5 years and have come to think of you as friends. I wanted to meet you and further cement friendships.

Ok my problem, we have had some crazy weather last few years. A couple of years ago, high winds caught and pealed back the metal facia siding that transitions from my brick to the roof. I discovered this when in my garage working on my bike. I notices a leak coming down the exposed studs in my garage. Had a roofer put a couple of roofing nails in and re attached. Good to go no problems. My neighbor let his fester too long. His peeled and had to be replaced, $800 bucks. I had a $50 fix.

Fast forward to the present. We had 80 plus winds. I have a guy who works for a roofing company live in the Neighborhood. He is middle to upper management. Has a Beautiful new roof on his house. Told me it was $30 K. I thought that was off the mark. A Tesla Solar roof could be had for 60k. So I asked him to check my roof for damage and give me a ruff ballpark for a new roof. He sent 2 workers up. They peeled up about 30 singles and took pics. I asked them if that was a good Idea, the roof was not leaking I went up in the attic and checked. He said it was fine. The wind pealed them up. But I could see the glue was still sticking.

Then he wanted to come in my house and talk to my wife and me. I told him no. You will be dealing with me. We went to my back patio. He did a 45 min sales presentation with his lap top. Called my insurance company with me and started a claim. Said they won’t want to pay. Said I should sign a contract with him and he would be their when the Insurance inspector comes and force them to do right by me.

I held my ground. Told him I would be doing some research on his company and get a few estimates. He did not like that. I did text him the time window the inspector would be here. He was a no show but the inspector showed and was very nice and professional, we got along. He knew his stuff. The roofing company had caused the damage to simulate wind damage. My Insurance Company is going to pay for a new roof.

Here is the rub. If I file the claim. They are going after him and the roofing company for payment. The claim will be under a vandalism claim. This guy lives 6 doors up and has done roofs in the neighborhood, It will probably cost him his job. I left Baltimore and came to NC because a neighbor was off the Reservation busted our door down at 2 in the morning and was trying to get up stairs to kill us. My Dog had other ideas. It’s a much longer story but this post is already to long.

So I have to make some decisions. This is weighing heavy on me. Woke up at 4 am and decided to share. So weigh in if you are inclined. Seeking advise.

It's just business, not personal. Let your agent run. If that's your neighbor's business model he needs to change his ways. He's a neighbor, why would he do that shit to a neighbor?

Guess it comes down to your back pocket. Depending on how much your deductible is, he may have already cost you some money. Not filing may be a lot more out of your pocket. I would bet the company he works for already knows what he does, or even condones it. It would be hard to not notice his practices at the company he works for.

If your insurance company now believes the roof needs to be repaired/replaced, I'd do it. Insurance companies don't like spending money, so apparently it's needed. Your home is your castle. . . . and biggest investment/asset. As far as him being a neighbor? Do NOT let that affect your decision. . . . he didn't.

There are two questions, a technical and a inter-personal. On the technical one, I'm with the others and would get the roof replaced. They don't heal themselves and get better, only worse.

As for the inter-personal, it sounds like however he comes across in neighborhood talk, he's a scumbag predator not to be trusted. Again, like the others wrote, keep the neighborhood talk as friendly as possible, but I wouldn't hesitate to file.

Didn't realize you moved from Balmo. Since she started med school in early 2012 my daughter has had a row house in a good part of Fed Hill right around the corner from where Jenna Bush used to live. Now that she's not a 20s grad student, with Charm City seeming to have started to slide downhill again, and her hour+ commute to Gaithersburg, we've been renovating the kitchen to sell the place so she can leave the city. To share what you're missing the following is from a text two nights ago:

"So I believe my requirement list for a new place has been expanded to:
1) A dishwasher
2) Parking
3) No more than one shooting within a half mile per week
4) More than a 2 mile drive from any major protest area (This has not been her first protest or riot)
5) Helicopters not so close all night that they interrupt the TV
6) Optional: Would love a garage."

From what you said Your neighbor definitely sounds like a trouble maker.
If he gets in trouble because you filed a claim with your insurance company that’s to bad, there are no shortage of roofing jobs available so if he would get fire he and the outfit he works for might learn a valuable lesson . I hate to see someone get fire but I hate even more to see honest folks getting ripped off like that.
