seriously? ever heard of the term "personal accountability" ;)

its not the sales guys job to babysit you through your first few months of motorcycle ownership YOU have to be responsible for some of it, i cant believe you tried to pin this on the dealer did your bike not come with an owners manual? everybody else's did
! and as for dealers just tryin to turn as much profit as they can prices ive seen here floating around here the dealers are barely breaking even tops they are making 300 bucs! i know profit is a dirty word but do you guys work for free?

True, it's in the manual, but the dealer/salesperson should run through all the controls at delivery. In fact I believe this is one of the little touches that are required for dealers to get or maintain "Yamaha Pro" status. Jim, if your dealer isn't one, or doesn't care, that might explain why you didn't get this treatment. If I understand correctly, that's part of the reason Yamaha send out the customer satisfaction forms after delivery. That way they can ascertain whether the dealer is performing as required at whatever level they are at with Yamaha.

For what it's worth, mine was one of the first delivered by my dealer, and they knew as much/little about the controls as I did. But they made the effort to run through things, we spent maybe 15 mins figuring things out together. They are one of the low-margin dealers too, but you wouldn't know it from the level of customer service.

I cant list the amount of times I have done a pre delivery walk around on a motorcycle only to have the customer call or visit back asking me to explain how something works that I covered the day before (or even 5 mins earlier), I don't mind it tho and I understand the excitement of the new toy and the wanting to get on and ride it asap ::001::

Whoa now. Backstroke! Poor choice of thoughts on my part. First of all, it wasn't the dealership that sold me the bike that turned me off. Those folks are top notch up there in Cullman. And, Bloke is right, I should have more accountability. I just stopped off on a whim at a dealership here in FL, on my way down to see my grandson. The guy I talked to just didn't seem interested in answering any questions (Guess I can't blame him because, I wasn't purchasing anything). The mechanic in Cullman went over a lot of information about the bike when I picked it up. Hard to digest and remember it all at the moment especially when new in motorcycling but, that's what phones are for. Like I said, just stopped in there on a whim. Those folks up there in Cullman each gave me there personal cell phones to ask any questions at any time so, from now on this is what I'll take advantage of. Sorry Bloke. I know all salesmen aren't bad. :). I love them up there in Cullman!

Agree 110% I had the bike out in 46C / 115F weather, and sitting at the lights the fan kicks in and the temp gauge ticks down, it may be loud but it works and well, my learner bike a hyosung gt650r in anything over 35C / 95F at speeds less than 40kph would get hotter till you had to pull over or drive faster to keep it from cooking, not only that it was like straddling a toaster...

I agree, the fan kicks in ALOT at low speeds and stop lights and is CRAZY loud in part because it up closer to the rider.

I seem to have noticed it more since I installed my skid plate, anyone else notice this?

If not then I may need to add more venting in my skid....I didn't want to make swiss cheese out of it and weaken it, but I also do not want to create an issue with high engine temps. It is only in the 60-70*F here right now and will get 100-110* in the summer....that scares me a bit.

Skid plates sometimes increase perceived engine noise because they reflect and funnel it upward. I doubt the engine runs appreciably hotter with one and I doubt drilling it for ventilation would make one iota of difference in how much the fan has to run.

My skid is custom homemade job. I took the large surround design of the ACD and copied it so it is pretty encompassing. Sound is not an issue for me, that part is fine, I actually like hearing the rocks clack it....comforting that it is not against my sump.

I drilled out a part of the front around the header but not much down the sides and only the drain holes under it.

Just feel like I notice the fan substantially more since my install. Curious if others had.

My son borrowed my bike to pass motorcycle endorsement this last summer.During low speed manuvers fan came on and instructor just about jumped out of her skin as she was very close to bike.I also have skid plate installed.Quit comical I might add.
