I just received my RS bash plate and I'm very disappointed ! Three little rubber posts to mount the thing to the bottom of the engine. I am well aware of the lack or mount options but this is ridiculous. I will definitely attach a safety wire. To the thing because the first ground contact and it's under the back wheel. Has anybody else tried to be a cheapskate and end up with one of these and do you know of any decent mods that can be made. Thanks in advance ::010::

This one?
http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-Super-Tenere-Skid-Plate/dp/B0058DVBES

or http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-1200-Super-Tenere-skid-plate-Engine-protector-4mm-Aluminum-GRADE-NEW-/251125871194

Uses the same mouthing holes that come with the bike Comes with all the hardware necessary for installation.
should have been a warning. The Yamaha skid plate is pretty light duty.

Edit: If that's the one you have, I'd contact them and tell them you are not happy with the product and don't feel it's "as described".

The ebay auction says
If you receive an item and feel it is not as described,
please send us an email before leaving feedback.
We'll be happy to take care of the discrepancy
And make sure to keep you Happy.

If you plan on doing any serious off-road riding, go ahead and get the Ride On ADV skid plate. I it's a bit pricey, but well worth it, and Jaxon is a genuine good guy too.

Tough call. Learn to cook? ;D Or attempt to return it and get something a little more stout. From your description it sounds like an adequate gravel guard, but not much more.

Wow, this skid plate makes the OEM seem robust, doesn't even cover the oil filter. Better off selling or returning it if you want more than a gravel guard.

My wife and I have an agreement: I don't try and buy her bags (or purses, or whateverthehellshecallsthem), and she doesn't buy me farkles without some specific links to the things we might like...

It worked great! Until Christmas of 2012 when I learned what "Burberry" is - don't ask - because if you don't already know, you don't want to....believe me!

I disagree. It looks as robust as any of the others that attach to the sump. It covers the bottom half of the oil filter, which is the part you're going to hit anyway.

No chance you can substitute it for another brand when she's not looking? Would she even notice the difference? And if you do get caught, you can make some surprisingly good meals in the microwave these days... :p

I've been out on the workbench looking and poking the plate with a set of calipers and I think I can improve it with a few pieces of aluminum flatbar and a few pop rivets, luckily most of my off roading is taking place on well graded fire roads in the Sierra Nevada . Yeah I know all about Burberry could have bought five of the plates for the price of one Burberry ! :lamp:

If she is a cowgirl, check out American West. They go just as gaga over the bag, and you are still cheaper than Jaxons masterpiece. :)

I've shamelessly bought her off this way.

Actually I was an absolute HERO that Christmas as I heard Tracie and her friend talking about Burberry and how they would never spend that much on themselves for a purse. Well, that year I'd bought the Tenere, a Klim Latitude getup, a Shoei Neotec, and a few small farkles for the bike.

I got with my assistant at work, and she helped me pick out the bag online - definite $ticker $hock for me - but with a bit of encouragement (read: guilt trip) from my assistant I ordered it. Tracie was absolutely shocked as she didn't have a clue I'd picked up on the whole Burberry conversation.

That bought me a lot of future Farkling Forgiveness, so it was worth every penny.

Or, as Snake would say, I bought her off...

Snap! Same thing here: a well meaning Christmas Present. I haven't figured out how to fit mine as the rear lip hits the exhaust before it's close enough to use the rubber spacer/mount - you didn't have this problem with yours? My bag-o-hardware included 5 rubber mounts but it looks like it only uses 3.

I bought that plate when I first got my bike. The plate itself is pretty robust, but unfortunately the mounts let it down. Anyway, it only uses three of the five supplied rubber mounts. The reason for that is when you bash something the rubber mounts usually tear, so that way you have a couple of spares. I kept it on for a few months and it did fine for low level off roading that did not have big rocks or other obstacles to bottom out on. I did break a couple of mounts though, but they only took minutes to replace. When I planned the trip to Colorado last year I realized this plate would have to be replaced first, so if anyone wants a pretty nice used one for $100, I'm all ears. LOL
