I'm modifying a BMW-type backrest for my S10.
I need to replace the two Yamaha 4-inch bolts on the luggage rack with new bolts about 5.5 inches long. The thread size is 8M x 1.25.
I can't find bolts that are 5.5 inches long, but I think I can fabricate them by taking a threaded rod and cementing a cap (or acorn) nut to one end. I'd use Loctite Red 271 to cement the rod and nut together.
Would this produce a permanent bolt, do you think? Or is there a better solution?
Many thanks for your advice.
