Hello Gentleman.

I am a newbie (intro on the intro thread - Tenere in Cumming GA), I only have 101 miles so far, my other bike is a K1600GT (so bare with me for a minute O:) ) . When I accelerate the Tenere it starts out great than there is a sort of rush in power (much like the VTEC VFR's used to have after 7K) is this normal, have any of you noticed this or am I just imagining things... ::021::

What year ST? While there were some changes for the 2014 model year that lessened the effect, power has been restricted in the first 3 gears below 3K RPMs.

At 101 miles the bike is far from settled in. And probably you're riding in Touring mode.

Not sure what your saying with "rush in power" my new 2014 ST with about 400 miles on it is really smooth but it is a torquey motor I haven't had above 5.5k rpms yet so don't know what it's like after that and so far I've only used the T mode. At what RPM do you get that rush of power ? From the Dino graphs I've seen on these motors I can't imagine it having a real noticable jump in power like a high reving inline 4 motor.

I think I know what you mean. I've had that happen to me a couple of times. Thought it was my imagination. I was in TC1, I think sport mode, accelerating across 2 lanes of traffic. Sounded like the motor was going faster, but I wasn't.

Sounds like you're getting on the other side of the infamous dip in power. It climbs pretty steep on the back side of the dip.

I've seen pix of it, they're around here someplace. To me it's pretty subtle on the charts I've seen, but it seems to be pretty noticeable to some butt dynos. ::26::

Here's the cleanest graph I grabbed in a quick use of the search function. The most notable dip is in the torque numbers. They all look pretty much like this graph, just most of them are all cluttered up, and the math seems to be off on some of them. I don't know the math, but tq and hp should cross at 5200rpm there abouts. The dip most talk about is below 3k, barely visible here, 4.5k here shows up well.

ATLDB - Nothing to do with your question, but I'm curious how you deploy these two fine machines. The Tenere is a pretty comfortable and capable touring bike, but definitely not in the same league as your K1600. So you hop on the K1600 when you want to ____, and you fire up the Tenere when you feel like ____? Please fill in the blanks.

As to your Tenere question - I haven't heard that observation/complaint on a stock bike, but there are times when my ECU Unleashed 2013 gets a little frisky from a dead stop in first gear (S mode). I've had to train myself to consciously tone it down when turning from a stop.

Congrats and welcome!

Low gear restrictions are certainly noticeable, especially if nailing from low down, 2nd gear is like a 2-stroke:

Well wife asked me the same question I said " I am not sure!" . But it is a great question, so I am going to try to answer it so I can train myself in answering other people including the SO. 99.9% of my riding so far has been done with my wife, and I will always "deploy" the K1600GT. Not that the ST is not capable of two up, but the K is just better. Commuting to work I have been using the ST, just lighter and more "street maneuverable". After a 20 year absence from riding, and a 2 years "disconnection from me" my brother is back riding and he bought a 2013 ST, he immediately joined the Backcountry Discovery Organization and the both of us are planning in doing the newest Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route in September. Utah next year and Washington the year after unless we can do Prudhoe bay in 2017. So the ST was my choice for these trips. Also my wife is taking the course in a couple of weeks, she might be riding her own or the ST soon ::012::
