Question about top case and a few other items

I have a question about the Yamaha top case. When I ordered my Super Tenere, I had a choice of three additional packages with different options. I dint want the full kit, so I took the middle option which contains heated grips, touring windscreen, top case and a few other items. I have read about the plastic rack and I'm wondering if the factory top case includes a metal mounting plate. I would also like any opinions on how rugged the factory cases are. I'm going to be purchasing the Micatech V2 side cases and intend to set my Tenere up for some Long distance touring/back woods camping adventures. I had Jesse Odyssey bags on my GS and for the record...they SUCKED! Installation was messy with turn signal/license plate relocation and the leaked badly from day one. The Micatech bags mount to SW-Moto racks so any scoop on them would be appreciated as well.

I'm also looking at the SW-Moto engine guard, and some type of after market silencer. I am familiar with Remus (had a carbon Fiber Hexacone on the GS) and see that Anakrapovic has a slip on system in development. I'm not looking for noise and to be honest, I have no idea how the super 10 sounds stock. I am looking for a few more horsepower and a crisp throttle response. I have yet to settle on a GPS mount or which adjustable windshield bracket I will purchase. Since we Yanks have till May to get our Super 10's I have time to stockpile parts. Any additional suggestions on kitting out my Bike will be most welcome. As I said its primary use will be hauling me and a load of camping gear over primary, secondary, and dirt roads.

Hi Grunt58 ..........

The factory top case does not include a metal mounting plate. My mounting plate broke and my topbox took a bad knock and was written off. Today I received a new topbox and the new mounting plate from my dealer. The new mounting plate feels and looks much stronger than the original one and I hope that Yamaha does not have to replace it again because of breakage to it.

The stock muffler is very quiet, I like it.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I guess I will have to wait and see what the mount and top box looks like. If the stock plate is fragile, it would be nice to be able to mount the factory case to an aftermarket rack.

I'm still awaiting the replacement of my box mounting assembly .... as I already have the OEM panniers I'll be wanting the OEM top box. Only put off the purchase as a result of Yamaha withdrawing the unit until the fix was available.

The fix is already available hare in Belgium. Actually mine is already replaced. It just takes 5 minutes to change them. The new one feels stronger and weigh much more.

Swagger, my dealer rang today to say that he'd ordered me the redesigned top box plate and expected to receive it in a couple of days. Might be worth a word if you've heard nothing yourself. For what it's worth I do rate the Yamaha top box. It looks well on the bike, isn't too big, will take an XL helmet and attaches/ detaches very easily and neatly. The key can also be coded to the ignition/ panniers, giving you one key for all the locks on the bike which is handy, too.

I received a notice from Yamaha that my rack needs to be replaced. I'll make the appointment when I'm in for my 1000km service.

What I'm interested in is to see a possible adapter hitting the market to put the top case on the pillion seat. I'm always riding solo and prefer to have the weight in between the bikes wheelbase to improve handling when the bike is packed. You can remove the pillion seat by loosening two bolts and lift the pillion seat to uncover a second rack that complements the rear luggage rack to increase storage room. It would be nice to see the top case adapter fitting on that second rack on top of the pillions place.

For the time being, I'm pleased that I can keep using the BMW sports bag that fits the Ténéré perfectly, except for the logo that is :p

You guys are lucky, I cant fınd any accessory to buy. I need wind deflector and touring screen badly . On the highway you catch lots of wind. The muffler is too quite for my taste.
The accessory packages in the states are good and cheap but not available. Wind deflector is only $79 :) here in Turkey its 120 euros and not available...lots of other stuff is available in south africa and AU but i cant get it...i'm kind of frustrated

Why can't they send things over to you? I can order and receive from all over the world, and I don't thing the shipping cost is much different from ours to let something come over from the us or Australia.

Well, I don't mind the shipping charges, but they add duty charges sometimes up to 100% of the value + sales tax(18%) on top that it has to be approved product other wise it may end up stuck in customs. FYI s10 is 13,900$ in USA but I paid 30,000$ in Turkey.
Anyways I ordered Kaoko cruise control from south africa tonight.shipping was only $50 , will see how the rest will go...i have no idea how much it's going to end up costing me or if I will ever get the product but I wanted to try and learn.
