Hi All

I've been looking at the Tenere since it came out in 2010. I've had the BMW 1200 GS, GSA, F800 ST and am on an F 800 GS since 2013. I am going to change in the next 6 months and thought I'd go for an Africa Twin, but having test rode one, it is too much like what I have and does not really move me to part with my money.
This had led me to the Tenere again and am going to join the blue army in the not too distant future ::016::.

Zofo, What are looking for, 1, A long term machine?
2, A low maint. machine?
3. An All round machine?

Tenere imho, wins hands down. Long service intervals, good resale, proven to be a long lived machine.

::021::

Good Luck

I to had my eye on the ST early on and joined this forum in 2010 but I got sidetracked with a used 05 GS for 4 years or so. I always had a KLR 650 in the garage for the last 10 years but got rid of them both when I bought the ST.
The longer I owned the GS the more I began to worry about large maintenance/repair bills if things should go south. No close servicing dealer was another thing that pretty much sealed the deal on selling it.
The KLR was of no concern as I'd had it torn down nine ways to Friday away. My riding habits changed somewhat and I just couldn't house 2 bikes anymore.
Absolutely no regrets on the ST purchase.
Add in a few creature comfort farkles and ride. ::001::

The S10 is a great all rounder. Too bad you don't have much for dirt/gravel roads in Ireland. Thats where the Tenere shines. You have lots of selection of road bikes to choose from too as you don't need the dirt option. But the upright riding position along with the leg room and reliability and grunty motor all help to make it a fun machine.

Hello zofo and welcome from Cork. I am on my second Tenere after putting nearly 80K on my 2010. Never had an ounce of trouble from the machine and never put anything but consumables on it. I now have almost 10k on my second one and if anything it is better than my original. Ideal machine for our Boreens.

A big ::004:: from New Mexico USA!

Like you I had been interested in the Super Tenere since they hit our shores in 2011 and I always knew that I'd have one. Well, that became a reality this past April. Since that time I have put just a little over 6,000 miles. The Super Tenere has exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it!

Thanks for all the advice and comments. I like the fact that the ST is so reliable and easy on the pocket to run. I need a bike to tour in Europe most years, commute and tour around Ireland. Not interested in off road on a big bike so all road travel for me, I like the upright riding position of the adventure bikes. I am going to arrange a test drive soon and look for a 2015/14 model. Thanks again for the welcome.

I've noticed two different types of instrument clusters:
1. Rev counter and speedo square with the warning lights on the bottom
2. Rev counter circular and the warning lights to the left of it.

Are they on different specification bikes?

Different generations. Gen 1 bikes (2010-2013 around the world, 2012-2013 in NA) have the round gauge cluster, Gen 2 (2014 and up) have the more square cluster.

Thanks AVGeek, that is really helpful. I am looking for a 2014 or 15 Gen 2 bike and have noticed there are some 2014 Gen 1 bikes being offered.

Welcome to the site Zofo ::008::

I also have done the GS thing, I loved the peace of mind with the Super Tenere concerning reliability ::022::

I've had my 2014 Gen2 around 14 months ( its an ES with the electronic suspension) and it seems well built, and gives you the feeling that all you need to do is add fuel 8)

If someone is offering a 2014 Gen 1 bike, I would be very suspicious...or it's just a typo.

Thanks for your comments Bryn. They are used 2014 bikes that I was assuming were the Gen 2 model.

Thanks for the info

No worries, AS AVGeek has said, if it has a flat LCD display with no divisions ( if you see what I mean) it's a Gen2 ::003::
