Problem with partially open throttle deceleration

I just got a 2015 Super Tenere. Unfortunately, it came with what seems to be fuel injection issues.

I turned the throttle screws out 3/4 turn.

But when I tried to adjust the throttle bodies with my Twinmax, I found I had a problem with it. (It would not zero out.)

I am going to borrow a Harmonizer and attempt to adjust the the throttle bodies with that.

Basically, I have found that if I decelerate with the throttle partially open, the engine starts running "lumpy." (This problem does not happen if I fully close the throttle.) The "engine check" light comes on until I fully close the throttle and then accelerate.

After I turned the adjustment screws out, I notice this problem affects the cruise control. If the cruise control is activated and this engine lumpiness happens, the cruise control indicator light starts flashing and will not let me set speed until the engine check light goes off and I restart the cruise control function. (This was a real problem at highway speed when the cruise control function quits and the bike gets jerky. One handed riding is not an option.)

So, I am hoping the throttle body adjustment will repair this issue. If not, I would appreciate any thoughts on what else I should be looking at.

NOTE: I did just see this post by Tenerator 12: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=12376.0

Nonetheless, any other thoughts are appreciated!

THANKS!

I read on here somewhere about cruise control being affected by the wheel sensors (ABS) and that when a tyre is changed on the rear there is a possibility of the sensor being damaged. This might be worth a check.

How did the bike run before you did the 3/4 turn adjustment? I'm wondering if the screws were already turned out 3/4 turn from original setting. This would make yours 1 1/2 turns out now. Just thinking that the previous owner already did the adjustment. If not, I think you have other problems such as possibly a throttle position sensor. Good luck.

I started looking into this because the bike was running poorly. It was in this research that I found this "adjustment."

There were no markings on the screw so I assume the p/o did not adjust it. I should turn them back in just to make sure though.

The cc worked fine before I did these mods.

I cannot help but believe the engine issue is messing with the cc.

So, I spent some time with a Harmonizer and got the bike working better but still not great.

The Harmonizer showed the throttle bodies going back and forth and the bike would idle okay but not great.

Why would the idle go from one side to the other and back? I think. Would also drop to around 1,000 rpms when I closed the throttle and would go up to 1,500 in a second or two.

Are you sure you don't have a vacuum leak? Check all the connections. A water bottle works well to find vacuum leaks. Pour the water on the connection and if the idle increases you have found a leak.

The 3/4 turn out is from fully bottomed when turned in all the way FIRST. This just gives you a uniform baseline to balance the other side with.

Start over. Turn the painted screw all the way in, then back out 3/4 turn. Now, leave it alone and balance with the other side.

I suspect all of your issues will go away, except the ones you created doing other things.

^^^ I started this whole process by making sure the white painted screw was screwed all the way in. I then backed it out per recommendation 3/4 turn.

I think I will take your advice and go back to square one and see what comes from it.

(Apparently, some people thing 3/4 turn is TOO MUCH on a gen 2 bike.)
