Does sound like you have excessive clutch drag; most bikes have a little, but hard shifting and "creep" with throttle at a stop are consistent with the problem. On a wet-clutch bike, the typical remedy is new clutch plates, but I'd see if the dealer is responsive on a bike just bought. Another thing to try is a change in oil brand/type and if you're at all close to a change, this is worth a try, although it probably won't make much difference. But maybe the PO threw something way off the mark in there.Dogdaze said:Hi, new Xt1200 owner but long time lurker. I have a question relating to this 'issue', just bought a 2012 from a maindealer in the UK, have put about a 1000 miles on it, mostly motorway, but today, riding around locally, I found the shifting really hard going (will try the cleaning suggested) and while sitting in traffic with clutch pulled in and in 1st gear, I'll blip the throttle a little as idle seems low and the bike moves forward, as though clutch not engaging fully. I have owned countless bikes, the last a DL650 and VZ1600, both of which I still have, but have never experienced such bad shift (have owned many BM's too). To add to that I had an absolute shyte experience from the stealership.
Any help, guidence would be most welcome.
Also, try bleeding the clutch, just in case...Dogdaze said:Thank for the info. Is there anything I can do? The dealer I bought from are unresponsive to say the least and as I'm now in Switzerland they are even more evasive, I may have to take it to my local Yam dealer, at least they are trustworthy.........

My 2012 is doing EXACTLY this. Brakes have been bled 2x in the last 6 weeks with no remedy. Additionally, if you put the bike on the centerstand in neutral and start it, the back wheel does not turn. Put it in first and let the clutch out and the wheel spins at engine idle as you would expect. But then when you fully pull in the clutch lever, the wheel not only does not start to slow down, but it continues to spin under power such that I cannot even stop the wheel spin with my burly Sidi Adventure boots. In short… the clutch is not disengaging when you pull in the lever.Dogdaze said:while sitting in traffic with clutch pulled in and in 1st gear, I'll blip the throttle a little as idle seems low and the bike moves forward, as though clutch not engaging fully.
Mine has done the same thing for three years when on the center stand.trikepilot said:My 2012 is doing EXACTLY this. Brakes have been bled 2x in the last 6 weeks with no remedy. There is something more serious wrong than a dry shifter pivot or air in the clutch lines. I showed it to my service manager and he was baffled. I am trying to get it into the shop after work one day this week to let them look at it closer. Thank god I have the YES warranty.
