Hello, I just bought a "new" 2020 T1200ZE with 1000 miles, 15 450 USD with VAT (14 500 Swiss Francs) BUT it is a DP046 means its NOT a 2020 but more probably a 2016.
Thanks, that helps. So far the best new OTD price I've found is around 16500. With used prices so high it almost seems like the better deal.

Wow, prices sure are crazy.

I picked up my brand new 2014 non ES back in 2015 for $8,500.

My 2014 now has over 60,000 miles and I am seeing prices for similar used bikes in the $6,000 to $9,000 range.

That's amazing; I can't believe a dealer let a 16k MSRP bike out the door for half off! Wish I'd been able to buy new bikes back then.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but ADV's Flea Market Bike section occasionally has 2nd Gens pop up at good prices:

Thanks! I've been keeping an eye on that. Nice bike choice by the way, my first bike was an 87 FZ700. I still have it in pieces from when I decided to start "rebuilding" it :\

Well that's confusing as hell if you don't know your vehicles. Never heard of such a thing. Wouldn't the vehicle still carry the year of manufacture on it's VIN/ID tag though? That's doe at the factory and registration wouldn't change that.
On a slightly related tangent, I found out that split years are common in the US on RVs. I bought a former rental unit from El Monte RV, and the chassis was a 2002 model (with an "incomplete" VIN from Ford) and the "completed" VIN (from Thor Industries) was for a 2003 model. In California, it was registered as a 2003 model, but when I moved to NV or AZ (I forget which one it was), it was registered as a 2002 model.

And speaking of RVs, bikes, and other power sports vehicles, inventory is at an all time low for a number of reasons, starting with the pandemic shutdowns of factories at the same time that demand spiked as a means of socially distanced recreation. You also have a large population of people working from home (for those that were able to keep their jobs) whose commuting expenses went to zero, freeing up cash for more discretionary spending.

Then there is the housing market, which is seeing all kinds of volatility and inventory shortages...there will be an interesting economic correction coming once more things open up and try to get back to a more "normal" way of living...

Been watching listings like a hawk and caught some good deals. Potentially looking at a 2014 ES with 7200 mi tomorrow for $9700. Anything I ought to know about or keep an eye out on that (or any) year that might affect cost?

The 2015 I spotted earlier turned out to have not had the work done for the transmission recall from that year, which obviously changed things a bit.

Never heard of this transmission recall?
Yeah there was a faulty stopper that could eventually lock up shifting while riding:

This old thread has some pictures of the recall notice which includes the VIN range:

Just the '15 model year? If so, I'm guessing it was a certain vendor that supplied the part. 'Cuz, aren't the transmissions the same . . . . even Gen 1 & 2?

Yep, faulty part that eventually cracked, not a design flaw. The recall work is just getting into the trans and replacing a small stopper. It affected a bunch of FZ series bikes too.

I think the transmission thing was over a fairly small run of bikes/VINs. My 2015 was not affected. Just because a particular 2015 has not had the recall done does not mean it should have been.

The second link in my post has a picture of the VIN ranges, and the bike I looked at seemed to fall into it. The online Yamaha recall checker was useless. I'll confirm with Yamaha tomorrow when they're open since I told the seller I would.
