Hey all, hunting for an S10 right now as I've got a few weeks off work. Prices, particularly used prices, are surprisingly high; people are listing 2018 and 2019 ES models for 14-15k, which shocked me a bit, and has me considering new.

So far the best deal I've found is about 16 OTD for a new ES. If I'm willing to forego ES, it seems gen 2 non-ES models can be had for closer to 10-11.

Any recent buyers, used or new, want to fill me in on what they paid, OTD or otherwise?

Hey Rob, I'm in WA, but I've been looking nationwide. I did find some great deals in WI, but I'm hesitant to buy a bike sight unseen. One of the better deals is in CA, which I'd happily fly down to and ride up.

Currently in the States the used market for motorcycles as well as automobiles is pretty robust.
There are also just so many leftovers available and the manufacturer's rebates/incentives for L/Os are quite weak as there is no reason to
put out big discounts because pretty much everything is selling. Last year destroyed the pipeline for motorcycles especially from Japan.
The used S10s you are looking at I would imagine have some degree of farkling included and probably have somewhat low miles on the odo.
Hang tight and play the field, I can sort of guarantee you something will eventually come up check all your boxes and tickle your fancy.

Yeah, I watched a news segment on it today. The "new" market is slim because of shutdowns. The "used" market is bringing top dollar. People being out of work, reducing their overhead. I got the impression that the demand for used cars is so high, that there could be some great deals on the brand new ones.

Current prices are all over the place. For $10-11K you should be able to score a non ES low-mile used '16-17, maybe even '18 with nice adds. FWIW, last January I scored a NOS '18 (non ES) for $10,450 plus tax & lic. My previous '12 was nicely set up but at that price, the '18 was too good to pass up. Stripped the '12 and moved all the farkles to the new scoot.

Be patient, the right bike will show up sooner than you think. Happy hunting!

At least for cars, there's a chip shortage that is hampering production so folks are turning to used and driving those prices up. Don't know if the chip shortage is affecting motorcycle production or not, but I've heard new motorcycle sales are better this last year than they've been for some time. If the manufacturers didn't anticipate that, a shortage of new bikes will cause demand uptick for used and consequently affect prices.

I am in north Idaho, and just bought my S10 in November. After weeks of watching the forum and Cycle Trader, I found my bike in Ohio. It was listed on Craigslist of all things. A great couple phone conversations with the owner and a guy at their local Harley Dealer looked it over for me, and HaulBikes brought it out here. It's a 2017 non-ES that had 2400 miles on it bone stock, no farkles. I paid $8200 for it and have set it up the way I wanted it.

It made me insanely nervous dealing from Craigslist, but the guy at the Harley dealer really went above and beyond. He looked the bike over and sent me pics confirming what the owner had sent me. I overnighted the check to him and he swapped the check for the bike with the owner. He also stored the bike for a few days until HaulBikes picked it up. Said it'd run $40 bucks for the storage which is a one month minimum. When it came time to pay him he wouldn't take any money. I told him that while Harley's aren't my thing, if that ever changes I'll try to buy from him!

Hello, I just bought a "new" 2020 T1200ZE with 1000 miles, 15 450 USD with VAT (14 500 Swiss Francs) BUT it is a DP046 means its NOT a 2020 but more probably a 2016.

The dealers I'm friendly with tell me this year's sales of everything is even stronger than last year...and last year smashed records. Romney's floor is nearly empty. Everything comes in, is built in the back, and goes to the buyer who prepurchased. Bascially nothing gets to the floor. Similar sales story for my friend who is a Yamaha, KTM, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Polaris, CanAm dealer. Ask him how are sales and he just rolls his eyes. Better than last year.

I had a version of this conversation when I bought my KTM recently. I asked the dealer how sales had been with the pandemic and he said they're selling probably double the units than they did this time 2 years ago. He attributed it to people seeking outdoor activities, more free time, and stimulus money.

Wait, what? They sold you a 2016 bike and represented it as a 2020? That can't be legal.

In some, or most, European countries, and some south american too, the year of the vehicle is when it was first registered, not when it was built. I've seen UK S10s that have a bin number corresponding to a Gen 1, 2011, registered as a 2014 S10.

When I was still living in Argentina, I once own a 2003 model (the year the revamped the car) of the Toyota Corolla, but was on paper a 2002 Toyota Corolla, as it was registered in Aug 2002.

Well that's confusing as hell if you don't know your vehicles. Never heard of such a thing. Wouldn't the vehicle still carry the year of manufacture on it's VIN/ID tag though? That's doe at the factory and registration wouldn't change that.

The biggest issue would be when it came to replacement parts. I had a car once that the front half was '84, and metric. . . . the back half was '83, and S.A.E. Yes. . . . it was a MOPAR .
