Power and vibrations.

Hi guys, I have read with interest the thread relating to the S10 being underpowered. When I was trying to reply the red notice shot up advising me to start a new thread. As a very non tech guy I am hoping somebody can clarify a couple points.

Firstly here in the Philippines with regard to other road users, in particularly pedestrians the S 10 for me has ample power on S mode. It's rare we can exceed 180km due to the latter. Have the feeling it runs out puff after this.

Mine has the white and red tank, understand it's a 2013 model, imported from Guiam. Regarding vibration I have read about a clutch basket, what ever this is. The only sign of slight vibration experienced is in 5 around 3---4rpm. Otherwise nothing, wondering if this model has the the basket or not.

At 13,000 km have just done front steering head bearings, many thanks again for useful helpful replies in a previous thread. Other than this just standard maintenance. Did fit a moto batt which is far superiors to the standard Yuasa in spite of lower CCA. Of course here cold temps do not apply.

So all in all for me there is power a plenty and I am thrilled with the bike. Just at times parking can be a bit of a drudge.

That's where the vibes are around 3,000 r.p.m..Some people it does not bother, some swap out to 2014 or newer basket.Vibes will be gone.I FEEL MINE IN ALL 6 GEARS..Does not bother me as I am used to triumphs, nortons, and Harleys.

There's vibration at around 3k rpm on all gears. The vibration is only in a small range of rpm so as you rev up the vibration goes. It doesn't really bother me.

If the vibs don't bother you, you're good to go! ::018::

Try a Moto Guzzi Stelvio for vibrations, the Supertenere is like a V12 in comparison...

Sorry, talking about the first gen clutch basket problem mentioned earlier. My dealer changed it out for second gen basket and CCT for free. ::014::
Heck, I thought I made a mistake buying this thing, driving it home and thought, damn this is awful!
Happy now though!

As ACE50 wrote, if something isn't really bothersome to YOU then nothing more needs to be done.

The biggest cause of vibrations that I've found has been the occasional need to synch the throttle bodies. For you new owners, there is a procedure in the Technical threads to refer to. It starts by adjusting the throttle which the Yamaha manual says to leave alone, and this is done because making the mixture a bit smoother makes the engine much happier. (Yamaha sets it for EPA pollution compliance.)

TRIANGLE CYCLES in Danville VA. Luckly I got to deal with the owner Rusty. They've sold very few S10's. Mostly sell ATV's.
My only complaint was getting a return call from Rusty. Always days later. Everything else was excellent!

Try setting the CO settings to +3 for each cylinders. It reduces that 3k rpm vibes significantly. Gets better throttle response too.

These bikes must vary because I've tried 3, 6, 9, 16 and to me there was some, but minimal change.
My biggest improvement was the CL Basket upgrade. ::001::

My next business trip to the US (if there is any), will be to purchase the Clutch Basket and CCT parts. For now, the CO settings is the best thing I can do. Using T mode most of the time now because it rides like what it should be.

Background:
Tropics weather 365 days a year.
Sea level altitude.
Bike is 3000km new.

Vibrations? Without them how would you know the engine is running? Having owned a large number of motorcycles over the years including three Moto Guzzis, I still have two, the Tenere does not have vibrations, The mild vibs are just thrown in from the factory to add character, you know, something to complain about. It gives the owners another topic after the high costs ownership has has been talked to death. ::021::

Good Luck
