I've read of some other heavy guys like myself setting the Preload on the EAS models to rider Plus luggage, or 2up to get the preload they desire... while flicking through the service manual for a fault code someone else was asking about I stumbled across something.

Essentially it is a procedure for adjusting the home position for the EAS i.e. the amount of preload for a solo rider.

this could possibly mean the preload can be calibrated for the individual riders weight, by changing the home position for the preload adjustment.

Basic steps would be to enter diagnostics mode go to the EAS menu code 84 and adjust the home position.

I'll post detailed instructions once I have a chance to read the manual in detail and try it for myself, I'll need to set the new home position and then run the preload through its range of movement and make sure it doesn't overrun the adjustment range when changing from solo to 2up+luggage.

This could mean the smaller guys could get less preload, and the average guys could dial it in to exactly what they want.

I have the manual could you tell me what page you found this one... and I will be anxiously waiting for your detail post on how to do this.

Thanks

It's not any one page but if you read 8-35 which IIRC is where all the EAS stuff starts you will find the info. but it mentions the process around chapter 9 somewhere for removing and installing the shock.

I want to read it all before diving in just so I have an exact understanding of what i'm tinkering with.

Will keep an eye on this one. I'm 200lbs without gear, pretty sure this could help me out.

Would rather a company offer a rebuild/upgrade for the ES stuff though. I "think" I really need a stiffer spring rather than just adding more preload. Could also use a smidge less comp. damping and a bit more rebound IMO.
