I have just bought a Xiaomi portable and rechargeable tyre pump. What a cracking piece of kit! Apparently it will inflate 8 car tyres on one charge and many more motorcycle or bicycle tyres. It is solidly built but nice and compact to fit easily into a top box or side case. You simply screw it onto the valve stem, set the pressure that you want the tyre inflated to and press a button. It stops automatically when the pre-set pressure is reached and it works a treat. There are several places to buy it from in the U.K. and prices range from £34 - £42

I guess the downside is the lithium battery, if you store the compressor on your bike. Lithium batteries are sensitive to temperatures; you aren't supposed to let them get below freezing, and they can self discharge over long periods of storage to the point that the battery can be damaged. It gets down in the twenties here in my garage at night, and my non battery powered compressor in my tool tube probably hasn't been out of the tube in months. Probably be an excellent tool to have if you keep it in the house, though.
