I'm thinking of getting a portable dvd player to watch while camping, a lot of times their is no wi-fi or cell service where I camp so I'm thinking this might be a good option to pass the time. I can get a sylvania 10" or 13.5" screen for about $85 to $125 with a 5hr. battery. Don't know much about other possible ways to watch dvd's so does this sound like a good idea or a waste of money? I don't have a laptop on the road just a i phone.

I use my Ipad and download movies from iTunes. I can charge it from the accessory plug while I ride the next day.

yes, a tablet is more compact, you dont have to carry discs, you can also read books, and write emails, so instead of carrying something that only has one use, the tablet combines many things. I typically carry my iPad as well. With my Nexus 6 though, I've found I rarely even use the ipad any more!

I have a small Sony DVD player and about six movies in a small bag and ear phones I bring sometimes.
Watched Jeremiah Johnson in Ouray one night and my friend and I watched Thunder Heart in Moab Horse thief campground one night drinking Beer and eating Steak!
I mainly bring a paperback to read when I am alone.

I have an $80 tablet that still is on WIN8.1 that I keep meaning to upgrade to 10.

No need to find physical DVDs to feed it, it does a lot more than a DVD player, I can load movies where wifi is available, and cheap to replace if it breaks. Since airline seat spacing is too tight for laptops any more, it's also handy on trips.

I'm an Apple guy, so iPad for the win! It's also handy to carry manuals and such, and when you do have either cell or wifi service, can be used for internet access to help troubleshoot any issues.

WoW!

Take a chill cheesewhiz, ain't nobody talking about living with a theater in the woods.
At night at some point some folks want to watch a flick or read a book, then crawl into the tent and crash.
Your acting like we want to be Borged into a digital unit. I don't put this on the top of my list it's an option and most of the time it stays at home.
I get away from society as much as I can on my bike or in my truck and camp and enjoy nature.

I leave the crazies to the motor homers and the satellite dish 50" flat screen with the king size bed inside at K.O.A.

The question was about What?
Not an opinion about it..

I am chill...
I thought I hit the wrong button and landed at a BMW site.
What's next, a debate on which French press is the best?

Leave the entertainment technology at home.
Try a campfire. Who knows what it will attract.
Disengage. Who know what your mind will think of (If you let it).
Live simply for a few days. You wont' die, and it will let you appreciate everything you have when you get back home.

While I'm sure CW's road to nirvana trumps mine, I do like my entertainment along with nature when I travel. I have an older portable dvd player and it could work on a motorcycle trip in a pinch. Redboxes are everywhere, of course. Downsides are that it is a bit hefty, the battery life is not great, it requires a 120v outlet to charge (and its own charger), the screen resolution isn't quite up to iPad standards, and because it's mechanical it might not hold up to any serious pounding. And since it can't connect to the internet, at least you're halfway to peace.

one vote for caveman TV... a book can be nice, helps in an emergency to start caveman TV... try that with your ipad or what ever you got.... but what ever makes you happy (free country) makes me happy....

Trust me I am not saying it's wrong or right it just is! ;)
Is it a desecration to nature as well to listen to music in the woods on electronics or bring a flute and sit on a stump and play?
I do that as well.. ::024::

Bring what you want enjoy what you want just pack it out and don't interfere with the next campers bliss, reason I use ear plugs to listen to audio! ::)
