Anyone have an idea of what this extra connection point is for?

Another kind of oil filter? Boat/Quad engine?

Yamaha calls it an "Oil Delivery Passage". It looks to me like it has channels in it that direct the flow of oil to where it needs to go.

looks to me you could possibly add another oil filter with a #7 Bolt Union.
The plate just looks like it covers and recirculates the oil... which a filter will do with added filtration.

The oil cooler would make sense. It's amazing what other products an engine may be installed into. The R1 motorcycle engine is in a wave runner.

That's the future oil feed for the turbocharger on the 2019 model.
