While I do not have the tools and equipment to machine and weld up a riders back rest, I have at least been doing many hours of internet and forum searching for possible solutions to add a rider back rest for my 2014 S10 ES.

Seems given my lack of a machine shop the best direction seems to me ...

Buy a pillion rack and replace the rear passenger seat with it.

Find some back rest that I can bolt to the pillion rack.

So my request is to those that have Pillion racks ... I like the Altrider one but seems others make them also (Adrider / Touratech / Moose / Wolfman / SW MOTECH...)

Anyone install a rider back rest? (And willing to share the details?)

Another Question. 2014 S10 ES

Will any non custom pillion rack allow for:

1. Givi top box attachment?
2. Rotopax Gas Cell?
3. Rider back rest?

I like the idea when not two up to have options when I remove the passenger seat.

I've got the Tourtech. I'm pretty sure you can bolt anything you want to it. I've seen a backrest on here. It was from some sort of scooter. Turned out slick.

For my wife, it's really not about "comfort"...they just make her feel more secure when riding on the back. They allow her to relax a little bit more and take in what's going on around her without having to focus on holding on to me. I would like to get one that could be easily taken on and off. 90% of the time, I ride solo on the S10 and would hate to have it on there when it's just me. I know that some guys have added "universal" backrest pads to top cases and claimed that it was a good solution. I'm not crazy about top cases either, but might keep my eye out for a good deal and give that a try. Google... top case back rest.

I made up my own pillion back rest for our Triumph Explorer and have now adapted it to fit on the S10 , my wife has always felt more relaxed on our bikes having a support to rest against, i am not a fan of top boxes prefer to use the panniers and a roll bag on the carrier.

Our rest is made up from a 6mm alloy plate mounted above the S10 carrier, a 75mm wide 4 mm thick s/steel "L" shaped bracket slid between the plate and carrier 2 fixings through the two, the rest its self came from e-bay off a Harley sissy bar I chose this rest as i wanted to keep it relatively small (120x 140 mm approx.) to stay in proportion with the look of the rear of the bike, I cut down the side legs and mounted on the "L" bracket, then had the whole lot powder coated black. i am pleased with the finished look and the wife is pleased with the comfort and reassurance the rest gives her.

The S10 is in for its first/break in service so I can't get photos till the weekend.
