I was wondering if anyone is planning on going to the Pikes peak race? first time for myself. any tips? would be cool to hangout with some likeminded people. does it make sence to ride there if so is parking secure? Thx!

I am not going this year, but I can answer any of your questions. As for the ride in, ride out... Parking is pretty secure, as in, once you are in pikes peak, you are in for the duration if you have gone above the start finish. We have never worried about our gear in the team truck, but they did bust some people that were going through unlocked vehicles. My only worry would be if you went up to the cove or devils playground, you may have weather. By "weather" I mean anything from clouds to a blizzard. It really is ride at your own risk, with that said, though, I wouldn't want to go up the mountain any other way. Personally, I would view from the lower half and do some hiking. That way you can get off the mountain if it fogs in and they stop the races.

I was gonna add about the altitude, but your from colorado, so your probably good with the elevation at the top. I was only at the top for about 30 minutes and had to get down to more air! You should ride up it to the top once to get an idea what the road is like. Autoteach is right about the weather! I was good on Pikes Peak, but Mount Evans was a different story. I experienced Rain, snow, HEAVY fog, and STRONG winds on my ride up and down that. I feared for my life!

I'll probably make the hill climb if I'm in town. I usually park just below treeline...above Glen Cove. Should know for sure come June.
