I thought I would pass on this information. I ordered some of these PIAA light guards direct from the manufacturer DS in Spain and unfortunately I have had a bad experience. Firstly the guards couldn’t be fitted due to the fact that the spacers supplied with them were much too thick (around 8mm when they should have been 4mm) and even worse the surface finish on them is not good. It is not a smooth uniform finish. It looks patchy and is more a dark brown colour than black. I used some washers to fit them whilst waiting for the correct spacers (they took over two weeks to arrive) but the guards don’t look good. As soon as the sun hits them they look far worse because it shows up the brown colour and it highlights the patchiness of the surface. I have decided that I will get them powder coated but it would seem that it is at my expense because the owner of DS isn’t interested in making a contribution to the cost of this. Overall this has not been a good experience. They will look great once I’ve had them powder coated and re-fitted with the correct spacers but they should have been right first time. It just annoys me when suppliers release stuff onto the market before it is ready.

I complained direct to the owner of DSBP so hopefully he will now have resolved these problems but I just hate being a BETA tester for a supplier unless they are providing the goods FOC.

I've just returned from a short trip away to find my light guards from DS Bike Protection waiting for me. Mine are fine and are exactly what I was looking for. They are well made and I find the anodised finish to my liking. My wife referred to the finish as industrial ... I call it perfect for the job of finishing the protectors. When it comes to protection I'm happy with rugged. If I'm honest the Yamaha engine protectors and sump guard aren't the best quality I've ever seen but I regard them as being there to be abused so I have no problem with them. Just another view of a product. I'm happy ::008::

Well done EricV for putting that pic on the system. I'm going to quickly fit mine this afternoon and try to get some pics up of the black ones. It's the black ones that Steve has had the problem with. Then I'm afraid I have to jump on a C-17 for a jaunt to our next playground. ::008::
