So, as I'm gearing up for the riding season and adding little bits to my new-to-me Super Tenere, I decided to add a Corbin seat recently. I ordered it brand-new, direct from Corbin. No heat, custom skin, etc. Came in quick: less than 4 weeks from the day I ordered to having it sitting on my door step. I opened the box up on Saturday to get it fitted when I noticed something that I really, really, REALLY do not like about the seat pan. Though I ordered the seat with no heating option it was evident that the seat pan used was meant to be used for the heating option. I'm in tool and die. I understand there's cost to maintaining tooling for multiple options of a part (heat and no heat) but when I go to buy a premium seat, at a premium price, I'd expect and least a premium build with parts appropriate to my order.

Now here's my problem. By selling me a $400 seat and using a seat pan with an 1.250"+ hole through the side of it they are leaving a big chunk of the cover material unsupported and prone to puncture/tear. As it is, it's right about where my foot hits the seat as I kick my leg over the bike to dismount. I just see this as a horrible quality decision to save a few dollars on manufacture.

Can anyone with non-heated Corbin seats check theirs and tell me if yours is the same with a big, gaping, unsupported hole in the pan as mine is? I found one set of pictures of a Corbin seat on the board but I couldnt make out if the hole was there or not.

Yep, I remember thinking the same thing when I got mine about 5 years ago. I even called Corbin to make sure that it wasn't some kind of manufacturing mistake. Anyways, 5 years and 40,000 miles later the 'hole' is just as it was when I got the seat. To be honest I don't even think about it anymore. BTW, Corbin said that part of their rationale for leaving the hole is that it enables owners to upgrade to heat if they decide to at some time down the road.

Thanks for the input. My first reaction to seeing it was surprise to see a huge quality defect hidden behind a strip of vinyl. It took me a moment to realize the hole was there for the heater option. Time will tell if I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill......and with that.....

I've owned seven Corbins and still have four; none with heat. I think you are poll vaulting over a mouse turd.
And thank you for your comment. It added nothing relevant to my question while attempting to invalidate my opinion of a seemingly sketchy quality decision . ::)

I can understand your concern over the hole. The vinyl is really pretty tough material, but you could provide some support behind that spot with a piece of foam, some spray foam or even just a blob of RTV if it really bothers you and you remain concerned about it being damaged in daily use. A 'plug' of camp pad foam, (or even styrofoam), or example, glued in place with some silicone RTV at the back would give it a bit of support and fill that hole from the inside. Also be easy enough to remove should you one day sell the seat or decide to add heat.

A couple of people have asked that comments in this thread be cut and at this point, we'll let them go. However

If you want to argue, address the other persons argument. And realize that some people's skin is thicker than others have.

Attacking other members themselves here and in other forums can result in bad moderator juju coming your way.

Thanks
