Ran into the exact same problem. I've been riding a wee-strom but wanted to move up to something bigger with abs. I did some research and everything I saw about this bike I liked. I went down to the local dealer for a test ride, fully intending to buy the bike that day. Unfortunately, after only a half mile the "knee banging against the shroud" issue made me reconsider. Every time I hit the brakes or rolled off the throttle my knees would bang against the shroud. The dealer tried the seat in all the positions (he desperately wanted to sell me this bike) but there was no relief. It worked if I sat right back against the pillion seat but it stretched out my arms uncomfortably and frankly, I don't want to have to place myself on the seat every time I ride. I suppose I could try risers but, without any guarantee of success, it's taking too much of a chance. I'm 6' 4" but I'm mostly legs. While I've seen a lot of "I'm tall and don't have any problems" I haven't seen anyone with the same issue who's solved it. I imagine they just don't buy the bike.

6'6" with 36" inseam here and I have zero issue with leg room on this bike. I don't sit close to tank but prefer pushed back close to if not touching edge of pillion seat. I've added risers and different bars to make top end ergos better but that's it. No lowered pegs etc. Few bikes for us taller guys to pick from and this has been by far the best I've ever had pleasure of riding and owning.

I'm getting the sense that we should start to consider wingspan or reach when talking about 'fitting' the bike. if your knees are into the side shrouds, something is different...does that necessarily mean that risers (with a rear kick) are the answers for this situation? I am only 6'1", 34" inseam, but have no problem using all of the seat and would have a hard time pushing my knees into the side shrouds, I usually require a tall fit in most clothing so I think my arms may be slightly longer on the average scale.

6'4" with 36 in inseam, and I have no difficulties at all - like most I ride a bit further back on the seat. The tall windscreen with Madstad bracket has made a big difference. I bought the Rox risers, installed the long lines, only to find that Rox mis-packaged the risers, giving me two distinctly different sizes, so I have to wait a bit to see how much that helps!

I pick up my S10 in a couple weeks so all I have to go by is sitting on one a few times. Primary reason for the purchase is for my passenger. She's fallen for DS riding and, in particular, playing in the dirt. We've done a ton of mods on one of my KLR's to get her comfortable but little success. I thought the 800XC would do but that also didn't pan out. It was more uncomfortable for her than the KLR. We then tried the 1200 Explorer and I did not like the bike while off road. I refuse to go with BMW so S10 is next.

I'm only 6'3" but with 36" inseam I'm always looking to increase the seat height. I didn't notice the knee's into the plastic but I can tell immediately the bar sweep is horrible for me...way too much pull back. New seat for me and her then new bars for sure. I'll let the miles rack up some before deciding on anything else. I already told her this is it....if she doesn't like the S10 then she's on her own. Shortly thereafter she asked to go back to the dealer where she sat on the bike for an extended amount of time. lol.
