Good Evening & Hello Everyone!
Just a quick intro from a short time lurker here in the UK. Should everything go as planned tomorrow my BMW K1600 will be swapped for a 2014 S10.
So, it's back to adventure bikes and a 'previously enjoyed' 2014 S10 with 850 miles on the clock. I say back to adventure bikes because in 1998 I started 11yrs on a R1100GS - a great bike as evidenced by the fact I owned it for that amount of time. My S10 is one of a number of custom painted by a UK dealer and comes with most of the farkles I would have fitted anyway.
After the GS was an Electra Glide which I kept for about 5yrs. A hugely enjoyable bike let down by its drive line and that includes two snapped belts in 65k miles.
The reason for the swap is that whilst the K16 is superb it was only a matter of time before my licence was taken. Really, the insane speeds it's capable of are almost a handicap on the roads of North Wales with it's ever decreasing speed limits and ever increasing police presence. Three fines [two in France - fortunately], in as many months mean the writings on the wall and it's got to go. Okay, I know the throttle goes both ways, but I'm weak O and that's an awful lots of power not being used. To be honest, I always knew it'd be a short term ownership thing but it's the sort of bike that needs to be experienced once in every motorcycle career and I'm pleased to say I've done it.
Really looking forward to tomorrow and frankly I need a break from reading about panniers and oil. The bike will have frames for Outback panniers fitted and if I can mount them I think it'll Globescout [35/45] with Bumot and Outback as fall backs. As for the oil - does it really make any difference?
My main concern now is pillion comfort which is of vital importance. That and the fact it's 10 weeks until spring.
Anyway, seems like you've a mellow forum here and one I hope to be able to contribute to in the future.
Stay safe. NeoCon
