At sixty miles an hour no knows the year of your bike and may know if it was parked next to them. Buy the one that you like.If it is a gen 1,like mine, or a gen 2, make the best deal and spend the savings on ?

Good Luck

Wife and I picked up a pair of new in the crate 13's for $7,999 each out the door. The only features the newer models have that I would like are the yellow anniversary color scheme and the updated clutch basket, she likes the idea of cruise but has never had a bike with it. Clutch baskets are an easy swap in less than hour and we have options for cruise. Should my bike fall over where the tank / plastics are damaged, I'll use the insurance money to get the yellow tank and plastics. Until then a, white/red with World Crosser graphics it is.

The price point sealed the deal, as the cheapest new 15's were over $4,000 higher, each. No regrets, just good times riding.

I have a white 2013 with the new clutch basket and a flashed ecu. I will have a hard time parting with this bike. I've been riding motorcycles for 42 years without cruise control so that is not a deal breaker for me. Enjoy your new bikes!

So, is 2,000-2,500 initial savings worth going with the 13? What would you do?
Probably not when comparing new vs. new without upgrades. Any Gen2 owner who enjoyed and rode their Gen1 for a good while and then moved to a Gen2 knows best. Plenty of folks here and others who responded with "no brainer", etc. I do have a good friend and rider buddy who loves his Gen1 but it has a ton of aftermarket upgrades that makes it worth keeping as-is. He does not ride a lot, and he's ridden my Gen2 and sees the differences, but at the end of the day he is very happy with his Gen1 with $3000+ worth of upgrades in it to make it comfortable for him. When comparing 2nd hand Gen2 bikes with upgrades, this opens a whole new door for comparison considerations. If I had to do it all over again, I'd look for a low mileage 2nd hand highly upgraded Gen2. Quality upgrades and add-ons are expensive, so remember that when you are looking at "total cost". For some, soon after purchasing a new vanilla bike, the farkle-upgrade sickness can set in pretty quick after riding the bike and seeing just how fun and nice it is to own and ride.

Pshaw - How could you have been riding for 42 years when you don't look that old?

Hi Bob,
I am 53 in body and 17 in mind. My lovely wife, whom you met, is much younger than me. I think that makes people think I am younger... like maybe 52. ::025::

I have a 2013 model that I purchased second hand and it came with yamaha luggage, bash plate, heated grips, touring screen, rear hugger, and Givi crash bars.

With only 6000 miles on the clock and under £8000 she is perfect and set up just how I like it so why would I spend £5000 + on a new one will it ride £5k better?? or could I use that money for another toy???

No Brainer.. ;)

I've got a white '13 I bought new in June of 2014 and paid $10,500. That deal included an extra year of YES and $1000 in Yamaha accessories. I've added all the Alt Rider goodies and an Excel throttle lock, a Madstad bracket with a tall Parabellum shield, heated grips ,PIAA lights, and a Rocky Mayer saddle rebuild. It has been an absolutely great bike, trouble free and as reliable as a brick. The only thing I wish I had that isn't available is the electronic cruise control, but between the Excell and a Throttle Rocker I still do pretty well. IF you can get a '13 at a good price, I'd not hesitate. If the price is close to a Gen 2 I'd probably go for the newer model just for the cruise control. However if the difference is $3k or more you'll find you can get a LOT of goodies to add to your bike for that amount of $$. Good luck with your search. You really can't go wrong either way. (NOTE: I was on the Triumph Tiger 1200 site the other day-guys were griping about issues and somebody said "you should look at the site for the much maligned Super Tenere and see all the problems they have-- they don't HAVE any Problems!". Pretty well sums up most folks experience with the S10's, put in gas every couple hundred miles and change the oil and tires occasionally and just ride the thing! When you get your new bike check everything out (I'd "ping" the spokes after a few hundred miles) and just enjoy it! They're a Great Motorcycle!
