Hi all-

Been riding 25 years -- Honda's mostly, but also a KZ-750 and a V-Strom mixed in with the lot. Never owned a Yamaha.

...
....Until today! ::018::

Been lurking for quite some time, researching and more researching, but I love to research.
Last year wife said I could get a new bike in 2015. Can't believe I waited almost 2 weeks into the new year ::024::

I'm 43 out of Wenatchee Wa. Narrowed my midlife crisis toy to a F6B, S10, FJR, Triumph Trophy.

F6B - Big, comfy, 2013's cheap, solid engine, but BIG. Just seemed too much for in town and it didn't grab my heart.
FJR - Fast, smooth, good value, but too sporty and red. I don't need tickets.

Trophy - Ah you are a looker. A growler too with that triple. Radio, Heated grips, electro shield, 300 miles a tank, cocooned driver's seat. Take those panniers off and now we're talking. I could envision us going cross town or cross country. I almost drove to Seattle on the 9th to look at a 2014 Pacific Blue (I intended to buy it), but got interrupted by work, so I put off the trip. Then I read some more--the battery drain issues--peeps getting stranded with a dead battery. Then My brain kicked in. The closest Triumph dealership is over 100 miles away. I've been stranded by a dead battery before. It sucks. And the Trophy is at least 3-4 Grand $ more.

S-10 - Hey Little Blue. A bit homely...but not in person. Looks good naked. Got a nice dash, cruise, ABS, TCS like the trophy, sounds good too. Known reliability, dealers all over, and an excellent price ($13477 OTD) and that includes the $1000 tax to Olympia. Experience Powersports in Moses Lake Wa were awesome to deal with...good people and gave me a fair price.

But 2 threads on this forum sealed my decision (or fate?).
I apologize in advance, I can' remember the user name, but a gentleman wrote a comparison between the S10 and the KTM 1190 from a "C" rider's perspective. I appreciated that honesty. I don't burn up the racetrack or even dirt bike ride (never been on one), but I'm a good, safe, defensive rider that can do 700 mile days. So that was my brain side.

Then I read the post about Snakebitten's disappearance for 6 months, his story, and all the replies. That was my heart side. And I knew I would be in good company.

For those of you who reached the end of this post--congratulations!
And to those who didn't...congratulations! ::025::

Who you calling homely?

Sounds like Olympia has a pretty good racket going there. Ouch!

Welcome. As you already know from all your research, you're going to love the bike.

Your just getting started with your experience of the Tenere phenomenon. Embrace and enjoy! The bike will consistently exceed your expectations long into your ownership.

Farkle her to your liking and then see where she takes you! Congrats!!

::004:: Wayne. You will not regret your decision. I do some two-up touring with my Super Ten, and my wife finds the passenger accommodations quite comfortable as well.

Yamaha reliability cannot be surpassed.

Cheers,

Bruce

Wenatchee Wayne? is that like "Johnny Football"? Welcome aboard, now be prepared to join the collective...a motley crew, but fun nonetheless. Stay alert for the Cajun...he finds everybody.

Only in the pictures, but...WOW...absolutely gorgeous blue luster in person. I don't know how guys can even think of taking her in the dirt :eek:

Even though that sounds like a friendly dig, I'd take that boy's salary any day!

On a side note -- Got a call 1/2 hour ago from the U-Haul company, the old guy found a Yamaha key on the floorboards. ::010::
Was dark when I returned the truck last night, didn't even notice the spare key gone.
1st minor mishap averted! ::012::

You blaming me? ::)

Honestly, I am honored!
Better than that, I'm not the least bit concerned with having possibly steered you wrong.
Cuz I haven't!
(To whatever degree I actually steered you)

There might be moments, early on, that you DO wonder if you made the best decision. But if you make yourself reserve judgment for 4000 miles, almost every cause for doubt disappears as this bike comes into its own. Not sure why the thing comes so "tight" from the assembly line, but it pays off as it turns into an amazing package.

My only other advice is to actually use it for what Yamaha obviously created for. Go ADVing on it! Pack it like a pack-mule and get away. Chase a few sunsets and sunrises, sipping coffee and looking over at it parked and waiting for your next jaunt. It'll steal your motorcycle heart like a good horse steals a cowpokes.

Cheers

::004:: from Oklahoma! Having owned a Gen I and a Gen II now. I guess I not only drank the Koolaide, but probably drank the entire bowl... ::025:: ::025:: Give it some miles to break you in and you will continue the love affair for many miles to come.

Took it out, ran it a few miles to rocky reach dam. 42 F, that's almost spring temperatures in these parts.

Cruise on a motorcycle gives me the smileys. T mode was smooth, S a bit jerky, but fast.

Hard breaking without diving the forks...priceless.

I'm still getting use to this big bike. Reminds me a lot of a V-Strom I owned briefly, except much more refined. The steering is incredibly stable, not use to that from my previous cruisers.

Need some winter pants, jeans are rather....numbing....at 60 mph in this weather.

I still need some miles to get comfortable and confident on this 600 pounder beast, but work and the weather forecast aren't cooperating :-[

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone!

Wayne
