I have a 14 non ES and I'm currently on the road.

The rear preload wheel is not working. I can turn it and turn it without any real adjustment.

I'm riding two up, fully loaded, so I need this to work so that I can set it to max preload. Right now I'm low riding this.

Any ideas or help?

Thanks!

Quick update. Following your advice, I stuck an Allen wrench in the bolt in the middle of the know and I tightened it. I think it worked for now. I still can't take her to max preload, but I was able to increase it. It will do until I get back.

(I still haven't figured out the root cause of this)
Did you try to set the preload without puting the bike on its centre stand ?

If the bike is not on the centre stand there is to much weight on the spring and adjuster gear that may cause the adjuster to get jammed.

I might have inadvertently done this.

So far, I was able to reset it by using the center stand. It seems to be working!

Had trouble with my knob just spinning when the bike was on the ground, as suggested on here I placed it on the center stand and like magic it was able to adjust ::001::

Never adjust the pre load when the bike is NOT mounted on the centre stand, there is to much weight on the spring.

Same reason why BMW had so many failairs on their electronic suspension.

On the ZE Tenere you can only do adjustment to the preload when the bike is on the centre stand and engine idle, very good safety future and prevent you to adjus the preload while spring is under load.

I thought something more serious had happened and I was worried.

I believe the root cause was me adjusting it while fully loaded and not on the center stand. Once I put her on the center stand, everything seemed to work again.

Anyway, made it back safe and sound. Thanks a lot to you guys, especially to burnoil who took my call late at night to help me out.

Must be something wrong with my 2014 ES. I can adjust the preload any time I have the engine running and in neutral, without having to put it on the center stand. The manual only states that when using the preload adjustment function there should be no weight on the vehicle. No mention of having to put it on the centerstand, just don't have rider and/or passenger on it while adjusting it.

Instructions say: 1. Turn the key to "ON", start the engine and then shift the transmission to neutral.

Corect, must be in N without load, but I'm so used to put it on the centre stand when adjusting the preload, but yes it can be on the sidestand aswell.
