Has anyone any info as to weather or not the 2014 S10 cruise control can be fitted to a 2012 S10. That is the only feature I would like to have, surly we don't have to trade up to get it.

I have asked my local friendly Yamaha dealer about this. I'm waiting for a response, which I will share as soon as I hear. I'll send them a REMinder this morning. R ::022::

No. I say that because it's ECU controlled, and would require the new instrument pod, both the left and right switch control pods and a new wiring harness, plus the ECU, at minimum.

It would have been nice if they offered an upgrade kit for CC, but Yamaha has never taken that path.

As per previous poster..... "Snowball's chance in hell." I'm not aware of a single instance where this sort of feature upgrade has ever been supported with a retrofit kit and doing it DIY would be prohibitively complex and expensive. As well, Yamaha has little interest in bringing your existing bike up to new spec as it removes an incentive for you to trade up to a new one.

From the sound of it even if they did offer it it would cost $1053+ Min (price of a new ECU, USD)
Check this one out http://www.mccruise.com/collections/yamaha/products/50 Proper custom cruise for S10, just had one fitted to my bike haven't tested it yet (pick up bike tomorrow) but everything i have seen about suggests it's better than most OME Cruise Control. And given the way the 2014 works even if you could upgrade I'd say this one will come in much cheaper. also it's gonna be cheaper than a trade in ;)

Thanks for the info. I will look to the AUS unit To bad Yamaha is so anal about upgrades, I would think they would benefit from this as I believe most of us will not be trading up. This lack of OME after market support may actually hinder new sales.

FWIW, there are alternatives at a much, much, cheaper cost. Rostra car CC units have been fitted to the Super Tenere.

Cheaper yes, but safer ? A quick look online and you can see a whole bunch of issues relating to cruise that was retro fitted causing some nasty accidents and issues, personally i'd rather spend that extra money for the piece of mind, than save a few $$ and experience an issue that could have devastating effect. if your out for the cheapest option a 20$ throttle lock would get you there.

It's as safe as the installer makes it. Can it be done poorly? Sure. But it can also be done safely. The normal clutch, brake inputs will cancel the CC.

I have a McCruise in the garage, installed on the wife's BMW. It's a thorough kit, but also uses vacuum & magnetic speed inputs, rather than electronic inputs from the bike's own speed sensor. Personally, I feel it is too expensive for what it is, and I have the Rostra on my S10, though I do need to finish the install.

I know people that have crashed bikes. No CC was involved. That doesn't mean they are unsafe. The bikes or the riders.

+1 Eric. I have installed the Audiovox cruise on 3 of my ST1300's, as well as two others for friends and they were 100% reliable and as safe as any OEM cruise. Sure, anyone could do an unsafe install, just as they could with anything, but if you take your time and do it correctly, there is no reason to be concerned with the safety any more than you would be concerned with cruise on any vehicle.
