Awesome Bimota. Part number AND the length.
After doing some searching on t'internet it looks like the OEM is a "shorter" type filter as opposed the car-type that my Harley uses, but now I'm going to measure theones I've got.
Although I won't cut a hole in the bash plate to accommodate a long car-type filter (madness to use anything other than that recommended), I might cut a hole big enough to accommodate the K&N "nut" that's on the top, that'll not undermine the protection of the filter, but still open up other posibilities of purchase when in far-flung lands.

I have never bought anything from K&N, but I have read some reports of leaks around the nut that they welded to the filters or the nut coming off when it’s time to remove the filter.
The past few years I have been using the highly dreaded Fram motorcycle oil filters, they fit both my motorcycles and my lawnmower and have never caused me any trouble.

Thanks Sierra, all I remember is that when I tried (a) filter the bash plate didn't go on, it kept pivoting on the filter. . . .
Sorry to labour this point, but exactly how long is the OEM filter? . . . .
I have the Altrider and the OE fit fine but cannot be removed with the plate in place. So, I take the plate off each oil change; not a big deal. One of the reasons I stick with OE parts is that the aftermarket makes its product(s) based on OE fitment. "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".

I have only used yamaha filters on my bike. They made a change and now give me a filter that is longer that caused issues with my SW Motech skid plate. I had to modify it so i could continue to use the OEM filter.

Back in the day here in UK, K&N were the pinnacle of filters, air and oil, and there will always be reports of this that and the other, so I'll use the filter once I've made a small hole to accommodate the nut.
Although a great resource this forum, and fountain of knowledge from you all, sometimes recommendations for products are only available in the States or Canada at a reasonable price.
That Mobil 1 unit for example, looks longer than the 204 units, so won't fit (Amazon UK have it listed at 100mm long), besides for the £23 it is here, I could buy 3 of the others and change out at each oil change, which I'd rather do.
