Seems that excessive CBU is becoming a major issue in engine as manufactures push the boundaries of clean burn technology. I was considering purchasing my 1st diesel powered car but after reading of issue with CBU I took a pass.tomatocity said:My 2012 did not use oil for 50,000 miles then it started to use a lot of oil. At 52.200 miles I changed oil and filter and the next morning the CCT failed. During the inspection they discovered severe carbon build up in the cylinder. Enough build to prevent the valves from closing. The carbon had little to do with the CCT failure but did with using oil. During the discussion of the failure both Yamaha and a few members from this forum mentioned the use of Yamalube Ring Free Plus a fuel additive. One member posted photos and how well it cleaned (like new) the intake valves. With the thought of "if it cleaned the intake valves it cleaned the complete cylinder".
Do yourself a favor and try using Yamalube Ring Free Plus to see if it will make a difference.

The nearest gas station to me is a Chevron so I almost always run with it. Their Techron additive is suppose to be very effective at keeping the intake track clean and free of CBU. My friend, the guy considering the ST, is a former service manager for H-D and more recently at a Yamaha certified service Marina here in Florida. He's a big fan of Sea Foam and has witnessed it's effectiveness on marine engines. About twice a year I run it through all of my vehicles. It's probably similar to the Yamaha product.
Thanks for all your input guys! ::008::
