I am having a problem with internal workings for a top box. Latching mechanism doesn't want to cooperate. Does anyone have or know of a parts diagram for the OEM top box? I need to see how it goes together on the inside of the panel; inside between the latches.

Whatever you do be damn careful if you're thinking of pulling it apart. The thing has a propensity to grenade on you. There are springs and all sorts of other bits that seem intent on taking out your eye. Seriously, you will have a hell of job getting it back together. I did it and it took hours to get it sorted. You'll find a thread on here where I reported the problem .... I can't remember if I detailed the repair.

Swagger, that is just the type of experience I've already had. That lower spring is a tough bit to get back in there. I am having a problem that when I install the lock cylinder nothing turns. I could see the top latch spring loose when the lock cylinder was removed. I've already taken it apart and after three hours of fiddling got it back together the only way I could see it fitting. Same problem; nothing turns with the lock cylinder installed. If I had a diagram I could be sure I got it together proper.

I agree!!! ANd I took mine all apart only to paint the damn box!!! It did take several hours to put Humpty-Dumpty Back together again!!! I find it works much smoother now for some reason, but I also have to really lift up the latch door further to get it attached and released from the bracket. Hmm

I had the same thing happen, you will be banging your head into a wall. I am lucky that my local dealer will meet or beat all internet prices. I took the first one back to the dealer and he gave ordered a new one. It came in about a week later. I put the lock in and Voila, it worked. Take it back or send it back.

I searched and did not find a thread like that. Can you help me find it?

I agree with posts about being careful. I was not careful and a spring went flying! I spent at least an hour fiddling with it to no avail. Top box is currently sitting in a friends garage in Delaware. Will attempt to tackle it again when I get back there.

There are basically four peices of plastic and three springs. One small spring controls the lid latch peice. There is another peice that has a round hole that the cylinder goes through and has an oval shaped tab that pushes on the "rod" peice that works the mounting latch and has a spring attached to that. The spring for the "rod" is under a good bit of tension. The last bit is a lever peice with a spring that pushed against the 'rod". I'll try to get some photos next time I take it apart. I need to know how the oval shaped peice interfaces with the "rod" for the mounting latch to make sure I have that in correctly. It is as confusing as it sounds. Way over engineered with plastic parts IMHO. It could have been done simpler, I think. I've had Givi Monokey cases before and they worked simple, every time.

I sold cbat the top box (tried to make a nice quick-disconnect setup using the OEM box and my AltRider rack and could not find a satisfactory solution). No issues at all with installing my lock cylinder and everything worked just fine. I opened/closed the top and the bottom latch many, many times during my fitment process.

So when I shipped the box off, I moved the latch assembly back and secured it in place with the 'shipping screw' and removed my lock. Just like when I received it from Yamaha. Imagine my surprise when cbat said the latch did not work. The pics he sent show his lock cylinder installed correctly but he mentioned seeing a spring visible (thru the lock hole?).

I am curious as to what the mechanism is like and what could be causing the lock cylinder to not rotate. Any pics of this assembly would be great. If the springs are removed, can you turn the the plastic cylinder (the the lock cylinder actually rotates) and see if the mechanism still works?

Success! ::015:: They KEY to getting to work was in that previous thread. The back plate of the cylinder needs to be rotated clockwise until it drops into the notches in the latch mechanism; Photo 1. This puts the key turned at 90' counter clockwise; Photo 2. And, it works. ::015:: The instructions do not mention this at all. I suppose you just have to know it. ::024::
