Ok here is the issue. I stuck my key in the tumbler and the case would not open. Then when I went to remove the key the whole lock came out of the case. I reinserted the key and tumbler and no way it would stay in then the inside that appeared to have 3 holes fell into the inside of the bag. Does anyone know how to open the side case now????? Other than sledge hammer, Gun, Dynamite or other equally destructive ways :)

Thanks

how did it fall in the bag? Oh boy, not great... The easiest would have been when that was still in there to grab it with a snap ring pliers and turn. I have never tried to turn one otherwise. I would pop the other bag off, remove the lock (making sure it cannot close) and figure out how you can turn that mechanism from the outside. When you are up to this it would be a good time to get some loctite on the screws. If the dealership did the install, drop it on their doorstep.

I assume when i went to reinsert the key lock stuff it didn't appear to be centered and the little nub on the end pushed it into the case so case is closed with riding gear inside Jacket, Gloves and Pistol. have other pistols and gear but favorite carry weapon :-( Thanks for the thought about taking other lock apart to see if I can figure it out. It is under warranty so tomorrow back to my dealer.

Take a look under the bag, you can open the bottom of the side bags by removing the screws.

If the dealer installed the locks I would take it back to them so they can deal with the problem.

In the lock installation instructions it says to use Loctite on the two screws. I installed my locks and did not use Loctite but I discovered (very lucky) the very loose lock and removed it until I could get some Loctite. Have not had a problem during the last 23,000 miles.

Easy!

Stick the one of your fingers, that best fits the hole, into the hole and twist right until the lid opens (using the other hand to hold the lid down while you do the twisting might help).

That is fine, just make sure they don't destroy the bag in the process. If they can't seem to get it open, undo the screws on the bottom of the bag to open everything up even while mounted to the bike. (I have done this) They probably didn't use loctite on the tiny torx-safety screws which hold the backing plate onto the tumbler. Once this is done, they shouldn't have an issue down the road.
Just don't let them start prying into the lid to get it open, otherwise you will be waiting for a new bag to come in.

Thanks all for the help

Be sure to have the latches in the locked/closed position. Push down on the lid and rotate the mechanism to the right.

I'm having a similar issue with my new top box. Installed the lock and tumbler (like I have 2 dozen times at work as a tech) turned the key, lid closed and now won't reopen. Lock and tumbler still intact. I'm lost and don't want to destroy my brand new box

Redneck,

Did you remember to remove the tiny screw that prevents the latch from locking the box before you put the tumbler in? I have 'learnt' that it is possible to close the lid without first removing that screw, but utterly hard to turn the key to open it after it has been shut....

Another, not so foolproof way, to open a stuck box is to use the excessive slack between lid and box to slowly make the latch lose its grip. Wiggle the lid from side to side, as much as the slack will allow it to move, while pulling gently upwards. That trick works on my left pannier, but not the right one...

The screw is actually in my pocket. I really don't know what happened. The mechanism is clocked a click too far to the right. Straight up unlocks the bottom lever, key turned clockwise a click locks the bottom lever but doesn't open the top.

These locks really suck, that's all I can say. As far as getting them open when the lock falls out, the push down on the lid and use a pair of needle nose pliers to turn the inside to the right and it will open right up.

The first OEM top box I got just totally sucked. I lost a lot of money to the swear jar and got really pissed off and thought I was an idiot 'cause I couldn't get the lock to work after I installed it. I took it back to the dealer and they gave me a new one. Well, the second one worked perfectly right out of the box. I am still an idiot, but my lock works now.

Well my dealer took care of my issue for me today concerning my lock. I am unsure what they did but my lock function much better than before they worked on both bag just in case. found issue with the other bag like I said have no clue what they did but they open way easier now and the locks are smoother no clunk like before.

Hey, next time you talk to your dealer, ask him what he did! My locks are kinda finicky on this new (used) SuperT.

THANKS!

I used GM super lube spray on my locks and they work good now
they make a super lube paste lube that would work good too if you removed the cyclnders and lubed them with that
