Hey y'all

Anyone using the factory bags? Do you like them? Are they easily removable?

Any thoughts or guidance will be very much appreciated

Thanks much.

I got mine this weekend. They are tricky to open/close, and really works better if you press lightly down on each lid to engage the lock mechanism. Other than that, just wish they were black instead of silver. WOrking on that!!!

I have them, they work okay. Make sure you get a good price on them because in my opinion they are way over priced for what you get. Lube up the lock mechanism on assembly or the key will barely turn the lock. I don't like having to have teh inginition key to open them all the time. They come off pretty easy when the mechanism does not hang up (my left bag hangs up on and off). Like I said if you get a decent deal on them like I did then they are worth it and the cheaper alternative out there plus they look great on the bike.

+1 - I lubed the mechanisms with Graphite, seems to work. Always press down to lock the lids. (Yamaha instructions actually specify this)
The latches are plastic. I can see some issues there in the future.

I have them and like them. Keep ice and bottled water in the left bag! Easy to operate the lock mechanism just remember to press down when opening or closing. I keep a spare key in my pocket that I only use to open/close the bags and don't have to use the ignition key. Enjoy them, I have so far.

My left bag hangs on and off as well. Thought it was just me.

I like the bags, they look great on the bike. I'm slightly worried about them lasting as they have a slightly cheap feel to them.
We shall see if they stand the test of time.

Edit: One thing I forgot. I wear a XXL full face helmet and it won't fit in the top case. ::)

I almost bought the side bags because I like the size. No they won't hold a helmet but they also aren't wide. I had Gobi's on a DL-1000 and they were WIDE. In California we can split lanes and wide is not good.

Keep information coming about the Yamaha bags and maybe I will buy them. Oh, are they water tight?

hey tomato, i started to dis-assemble the top box, and in doing so, I could see light inside only after a few screws. I don't see how they are waterproof, but maybe they are. If not, Looks like i will be buying a tube of good rtv sealant and squirting away!!!

Ouch! but thanks. Any information on the side boxes. Too keep the top weight away, I am trying to not have a top box.

Is there something other than RTV? Like a thick tape that can be pushed into the seams? What about marine products?

This is what I used on my boats. Works great and will not peel or come loose.

Thanks to all, the answer is they look good, work OK, probably are not water proof and may not last a long time"...........well a $1000 does not buy what it used to does it?

Maybe I will go bag less until I have something else to consider. Going on a trip to Utah in 3 weeks and really want to ride the ST but the GSA has all the stuff and I guess unless I make a decision on bags it will go and the ST will gave to wait for another day.

Cheers

For the money there is better out there.
I'm happy with mine so far.
I forgot to re-lock one of my side boxes and road about 25 miles on dirt. There was dust on the seal, but none inside the box.

I like mine also. The wife and I took a trip this weekend and the liners and boxes worked great. Just as easy as the FJR liners and hold about the same.

By the way the bike did great loaded and with two up. :)

Over 600 miles now and each time I throw a leg over it the fun factor gets better when I didn't think it was possible to get any better. What is that anyway  I never had a bike do this to me before but IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII like it :) :) :)

In riding home from D & H there was rain all the way to Corinth, MS (over 100 miles Iirc) I had the go pro wide angle camera, go pro hd, bill of sale, proof of insurance etc in the saddlebags and everything was 100% dry. I didn't do the assembly or installation D & H did it for no additional charge. Obviously they did it right.

Thats cool they installed them for free. 8)

I don't think I will have any problems with sealing and keeping water out of them. They look like they have a good seal system on them.

No complaints so far.. the mechanism seems a little fiddly, but they each hold a case of beer ;)

I ordered the OEM's as well. If you watch the video (link on here somewhere) it clearly states that specifically because of the design of the rubber seal, you are to push down on the lid to lock and unlock. Seems like it makes sense in order to create a good water tight seal. Only other bags I have experience with are the Yamaha Venture OEM bags and they served me well for 40k miles and 6 years.
