my oem heated grips stopped working this morning on my commute to work in 20f deg temp. my grips are not even a year old yet. they worked fine yesterday morning and afternoon commuting, but were completely dead this morning. I installed the grips myself and am wondering if it is the controller?? has anyone else experienced this?? I don't remember if there is an inline fuse with this kit that i could check.?

a quick search has turned up one issue with a cut wire on the throttle side. I will check there first. can you buy the grip heaters individually??

I arrived home this afternoon to find the throttle side had a wire broken off way down inside the grip where is not easily repairable. I am wondering if a throttle side from a 2014 would fit?? it is much cheaper than the rough price for a 2012-2013 grip. I would like to see if Yamaha can warranty the grip since it is less than a year old.

No much posting on your issue, but still very interesting. At least for me, as I am in the exact same situation, except my heat grip still works.
The points of interest are:
1) Why did the wire broke off. Mounting error or defective wire?
2) Is Yamaha standing behind its accessory, even if the user didn't use a dealer to mount it?

Please keep posting. Thanks. Phil

wires have been soldered together and the throttle grip is working, but does not get very hot. I will be sourcing a replacement. i wonder if a 2014 throttle side grip would work? looks much cheaper than trying to get an exact replacement by using the kit replacement part number

continuing on my grip heater blog here. since the repair of the throttle grip they are both working great. i did not put the repaired throttle side grip and wires into the supplied housing for the heated grips. i used the original housing and ran the wire exposed. it has electrical tape protecting the wires for now and will later be protected by shrink tubing. they work great as if nothing ever happened. I went ahead and ordered a new throttle side from a 2014 es model and i hope it fits ( i hope the it is simple plug and play and same internal design). they are back ordered for 8 weeks. no prob no rush since we are heading into winter anyway. I will report back when i receive the grip.

Usually, when the throttle side wire is found chafed through, it is because the installer didn't apply grease to outside of the wires at points specified in the installation instructions. Very important, in this case.

Sierraoffroad, like for you my Yamaha Heated Grips stopped working all of a sudden. Before I start investigate (and probably mess up) please share your experience. How did you find that the wire to the throttle was broken?
How did you fix it? What did I do wrong when mounting it (respecting the instructions by the letter). I applied a ton of white grease everywhere. I don't think I missed a spot...
All pictures/document would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Got on my s10 today and my hot grips were weak and the controller is not illuminated anymore. Cheçked the wire in the throttle side. Looked good. Did some checking and yamaha doesn't sell controllers individually. They went out the last day of the warranty. What a ripoff.yhey were great up to that point.

Bummer John.

Did you check the fuse?

Failing on the last day of the warranty... they should still be covered.

I have a 2014 S10 which I picked up in October with the Yam heated grips fitted as an option, Xmas day they stopped working at 2,500 miles, as the 2014 grips are integrated into the dash menu I went into the grip menu but it wouldn`t appear! so when I managed to get into the dealer after Xmas they had a look at the bike, couldn`t find a separate fuse for the grips so in the end we put a demo bike next to mine and plugged in it`s heated grips, the menu appeared and the grips on the demo worked so with a process of elimination we found the throttle grip on my bike was faulty so the dealer took the one off the demo and fitted to my bike ::012::
So on the 2014 bike if one grip fails they both stop working and the menu won`t appear ::007:: hope this isn`t an ongoing problem with these grips as I paid a lot as an extra and I was fed up with the useless heated grips on my previous bike a BMW 800GS ::007::
