If your bike rarely sees any dirt roads etc i cant see why a K&N , BMC would be a bad choice ??

Come to think about it i dont think i had any gaskets with the K&N my bike came with...i am missing 1 screw for the lid however :(

Look really close at the grooves around the perimeter of the air box lid (the upper one does not contact the air filter element, it seals the air box lid) and under the air filter element. I think the rubber seals are down in there and may just appear to be the bottom of the groove. Maybe poke something blunt in there to see if there’s something compressible in there?

The gaskets (seal #13 & 14) are seated in the lid and lower airbox. I never replaced them, so I don't have a clue if they are glued in there, but they never fell out during air filter changes either.

It might be easy to pick them out with a dental tool or awl, or might be a serious pain in the butt to get them out, clean the bottom of the groove and install the new ones w/o getting them twisted or damaged. Yamaha usually likes these to just be a press fit, so it's probably not that bad to remove them and only a little fussy to install the new ones. Likely getting the final seat when you screw the 13 screws back in to secure the air box lid.

(I wonder why something they would like is to check so often is so over secured? My old Ducati just had spring clips like cars used to have. The new Chevy in the garage only uses 4 screws.)
you can tell the difference of the look between the plastic and the seal
Just a quick heads up, the mystery of the rubber gaskets in the air box has been solved.
I had to clean up some wiring from last year when I installed my GIVI LED Fogs so while I
was at it, (I had to take both L&R upper and lower cowls off to access the wires for the fogs) I lifted the tank to check the air box for the rubber seals.
As mentioned by the Gents above the rubber seals were indeed deeply embedded in the upper & lower grooves of the air box
and they were in really great condition so I just left them alone.
Now I know....

I would never use a K&N on anything that might see dirt. Been there done that on a CJ-5 I had.
The Tenere will never see the benefit of the less restriction of the K&N due to the low RPM output of the motor. The oiled K&N will pass fine dirt with ease unless a oiled foam sleeve is put ahead of it.
The stock oiled paper filter works great and I’ve done 32k miles plus IBDR, CBDR, UBDR. Yes I was the leader on those but a just had it out last week and I put it back for the 600 mile ride I did over the last two days.
