Has anyone run NULON 10/40 full synthetic in their S10? Repco has it on special this month $44.95 for 5L which is pretty good for full synthetic but I’ve never used NULON before , it does say ok for motorcycles when yo look up the spec sheet .look forward to some feedback cheers Steve.

You need to put your location in your profile. Australia?

Nulon isn't readily available in the US, but I looked it up and it's a Diesel oil with the following API ratings, none of which are motorcycle.

API SN, SM, CI-4+ , CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4. Typically, an API SJ through SM engine oil would include some friction modifier, which is generally not recommended for wet clutch motorcycle use. The Cl-4+, CJ-4, CL-4 & CH-4 ratings are about diesel soot-related viscosity issues.

Where are you seeing it says it's ok for motorcycles? Typically I would look for a JASO MA/MA2 rating to be included if it was Moto rated.

A common diesel oil used on motorcycles in the US is Rotella T-6. If you look at the back side of the jug pictured in the link and read the ratings you will note that there is no API ratings for SM, but it is rated JASO DH-2 along with MA/MA2.

I would suggest you do not use the Nulon oil in your Super Tenere just because it contains friction modifiers like most automotive oils.

Thanks for such a detailed reply and the research you did into the oil, yes in OZ. I will (if I can make it work) attach this pic from their site, it does say motorbike but I note it doesn’t say wet clutch??

The Nulon Semi-Synthetic 15W-40 oil in your pic is rated JASO MA and should be fine for moto use. LINK The Full Synthetic 10W-40 is not rated JASO MA, as I stated in my earlier post. Oddly, the Semi-Synth oil does also carry a SM and SG API rating which would indicate the use of friction modifiers. I looked at several of the Nulon oils and only the Semi-Synthetics were JASO MA rated. The high torque Semi-Synth is also not JASO MA rated, so stick with the red jug if you use Nulon oils.

It has to be fairly small for the profile pic. If you can, make a copy/duplicate on your computer, then re-size that one to 400 x 400 pixels.

Thanks Eric- what a pain it was on iPad the bloody thing doesn’t allow you to view file size so I had to email the pic to myself that allows you to reduce the size /send it/save the pic then this site would accept it.

Congrats on your successful profile pic adventure! :D What should be simple, isn't always.

If you try the Nulon Semi Synth, post back and let the forum know what you think of it. Smooth shifting or not, or no difference from what you were using before and anything else you notice. The full synthetic oils seem to give me smoother shifting on the S10. I especially liked the Motul 7100 4T in 10W-40, but it's gotten more expensive than I would like. I buy it when I can find it on sale for under $50 USD for a 4L bottle.
