Not spotted: a single Tenere in France

Just got back from southern France for a work trip. And while Cannes is as bristling with motorbikes and scooters as advertising folks (it's the annual Cannes Lions ad festival this week), and I study bikes when I travel, I didn't see a single S10.

Literally DOZENS of GSs, along with a bazillion Burgmans, Yamaha maxi-scooters, and Vespas. But nary an S10 in sight.

And as an ATTGAT guy, also fascinating to observe the Côte d'Azur approach to riding & safety. More than once, I saw a young French couple on a GS in shorts, tank tops, open face helmets and BARE FEET. Not even flip flops...bare-assed feet!

Also spotted some odd/rare birds, like this candy-apple-sparkle-magenta airhead...

And this Kawi W800, which we don't have Stateside and I'd never seen in the flesh....

Maybe the SuperTen is a Northern European bike!

That 75/6 is indeed a classic, thanks for the picture..... it reminds me of my 1st BMW a new 1974 60/6 that I set up for touring with a vetter fairing and the BMW Krause panniers. The following year I did my very first cross country trip, NY to Ca. with it.
While I was travelling a friend, a young local doctor, picked up a R90S, the orange one, a real beauty. A few weeks later he was arrested for riding it though town drunk and naked, ::025:: , Back then, in small town upstate NY the only punishment for such behavior was a night in the grey bar. RIP Rodger.

I know a couple guys from the UK that are Tenere owners, one of them is an inmate here, Mr. Rasher. Hopefully he'll drop by here.

For the last several years I'm lucky enough o be able to ride in Europe for 6-8 weeks, mostly in the Alps. I too enjoy seeing all the bikes that are available in Europe haven't made their way to the US. One of my favorites was a 2004 Benelli Tnt Cafè Racer, 1130cc piece of Italian eye candy. I shared a beer with the owner in Castellane Fr. in 2011. Castellane's a great biker town an hour north of Nice and a week end destination for riders from the Fr. and It. coast. It's a great place to salivate over beautiful European motorcycle, and share a beer with other riders. Ooops, sorry for the thread drift, I'm getting excited about this years tip.

I know the dealer in Toulouse has sold a couple of Teneres.
But 1200 cc bikes are extra expensive and not common outside of the US.

What do you expect in the posing region

On my Alps trip last year we had 30 bikes outside our Dolomites Hotel including three S10's - and not one 1200GS in sight. Also had one pull up at a Hotel we used in Austria - and again not a single GS (apart from the owners old 1150)

I think they have discovered their final drives last longer if they just parkup on the beach front all day.

I beg to differ.

I was in the French alps back in early 2010.
the French put on this rally on a yearly basis: http://www.moto-tour.com/

Yamaha was one of the sponsors, and provided the bikes.
one of them being a silver super tenere.

I just about drove the rental car into a wall, since I was too busy looking at the bike.
I spoke to the rider (in my crap french) who let me man hadle the bike (sit on it, centerstand, get the feel of the weight etc) first time I laid eyes on one.

After that it was love at first sight...

In 2011 and 2012 there was at least one BMW with that group and in 2012 a Super Tenere was also there, a Scandinavian with his wife.
The same BMW ride will join the group this year in Ulrichen Germany. On July 3rd that same guy will be in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany for BMW Motorrad days, it the annual BMW European Rally, there will be thousands of BMW there. That same guy was at Motorrad Days on 2012 and did not see any broken BMWs, not one. Must have been a very lucky day for all BMW riders. ::024:: ::025::

Rasher, meet me at Motorrrad Days, I'll buy ya a bier. :p ::025::

Reserving a slot for Dallara to come in and do some obligatory roughing up of Big Blu. He must be busy at the moment but I'm sure he'll get to it eventually. ::025::

I'm worried about his health, he's been a bit edgy of late.
I hope he's well and want to send him a message: ::025:: ::025::

Nah! I've decided to take a sabbatical and give ol' Big Blu a break for a while. He's just too easy a target, and whether it's an age-related thing, too much BMW kool-aid, his ineptitude with sentence structure and spelling, etc., etc.... it's obvious he's got plenty of problems to deal with. He doesn't need me winding him up into near apoplexy for a while! ::025::

I'd feel really bad if I were responsible for a 70-year-old like him stroking out... ;)

Besides, what do you expect him to say about BMW's? He loves 'em more than anything else on Earth, and in his eyes they're perfect! ::013::

And in the vein of his most recent post... This is the way I feel every day!

Just trying to follow along with the style of your musical selection, Paul. ;)

I'm certainly secure in my heterosexuality, but I should have know you'd let your own latent sexual bent creep into the conversation. :))

p.s. - you did know Bobby McFerrin was gay, didn't you, Paul? ::025::

I'll be in France on mine in a couple of weeks. ;D

Last year I saw a French registered S10 in Aix-en-Provence.
