Renting a couple of bikes with a buddy this week in the Smokies. I am going to let my buddy rent the Tenere (as I have one) and I will take the GS. Should be interesting to compare after riding a couple of K's on the ST. Will report back.
Looking for suggestions on essential North Georgia roads (somewhat familiar with TN and NC- Tail of the Dragon, etc.). Any "shouldn't miss" Georgia routes and sites in the area? Appreciate any advice.

When? 25 years ago???? ;D I sure wish they would lay some fresh asphalt again...

Hwy 28 coming south from Highlands NC, get into Ga and take right on War Woman. Come to Clayton and then you have options. Ride 76 west, then you can cut down 197 and ride next to Lake Burton, or stay on 76. Hwy 75 south to Helen, then 75A west, then 348 Richard Russell Parkway, then 129 South to 180 (wolf pen gap), to Suches. 60 north or south. I prefer north. Can ride all the way to Blue Ridge or cut off on Skeenah Gap Rd. Fort Mountain over near Ellijay is a good one. Aska Road near blue ridge.

That will get you started for roads. You can look up all the forest roads that link these if you want to get dirty...

Hey if you are renting from Lt. Dan at GSMotorent he has several maps he'll give you he has some great routes for both dirt and street. He is an awesome guy to deal with.

Yes. Renting and staying at Dan's (GSMotorent). Did this last year and that sealed the deal in me purchasing an ST. Probably going to be an annual event. I am doing some work in North Carolina and my buddy is going to come up mid week, from West Palm to ride and drink some George Dickels' on the deck of the "Cabin of Lost Soles" after a few full days of riding. Did mostly TN and NC last year. Read alot about North Georgia so figured we would explore that part. Appreciate all the recommendations. And guys, I am from the Pacific Northwest and it is spectacular riding up there, but you have something extremely special down here. Some of the best roads anywhere. Everyone should ride here at least once!

Having regrets that I told my buddy that he could have the ST, and I would the GS, though. He wants to see what I am always raving about. I will have to endure the boxer. Oh, well.

Rt 68 is great. In my opinion better than Tail of the Dragon and not a mad house on weekends. There is only one primitive motorcycle camp which I've only see riding by which is likely why it is not as busy. You have to stay in Tellico or McCaysville and I'd pick Tellico. If you like photography, there are plenty of farm houses and interesting topics along the way. McCaysville is a quaint town on the GA/TN border with fuel, food and a generally interesting classic small country town. Tellico has more options and is closer to more amenities to the North on the way to Knoxville. Tellico Plains is 2-2.5 hours from Atlanta and an easy ride in good weather.
