Hi all, fresh meat here.

My name is Phil Challinor and I reside in Diamond Springs, CA with my wife, two mini-schnauzers (Hook and Ladder), and our new daughter Amelia. I am a professional firefighter with the City of Folsom Fire Dept. as a Fire Engineer/Acting Captain/Paramedic.

I like Pina Coladas, walks on the beach, getting caught in the rain....oh, never mind!

Ordered my Impact Blue S10 a week ago from Roseville Yamaha.

I'm pretty well known on ADV and BMWST as "1bmwfan" but, well, I guess I'm not as much a fan as I once was. :) Let's just say that my K1300GT was bought back and my F800GS has had just about every first year issue it could have had. That's all I've got to say about that.

Looking forward to the eventual arrival of my Tenere. Whenever that will be is fine by me. If it arrives by 2012 it will be a shorter wait than trying to keep my former bikes on the road versus in the shop. :)

Definitely looking forward to interacting and gaining more info on teh bike and on new friendships made! I know several of you over here. Hopefully, you won't hold that against me.

Hi and glad to be here!

Welcome Phil,

Used to be that the bmw's were rock solid. I don't know what happened to them. Maybe too much technology, too fast. This will be my first yamaha big bike and I'm really looking forward to it. Welcome

Welcome to the forum, Phil! Stories like yours kept me from buying an R1200GS even though I really liked riding one. I'm really looking forward to the XT1200Z.

Congratulations to you and your wife on your new daughter!

Welcome Phil,

My parents lived in Roseville over 30 years ago...when it was a sleepy town in the mountains. I used it as a jumping off spot for the Northern Sierra and beyond.

Like you, I also picked the faster color Blue.

Hello Phil,

Sorry you had issues with your Beemers. I've owned several big bore Yamahas over the years and had very few problems with them, so I think you will be happy with your new ride.

Welcome Phil. Yeah, I know what you mean about BMW's. They are great machines, when they are running. It does not matter how good the warranty is if your bike is in the shop all of the time and you don't get to actually ride it much.

Welcome Phil and you have a beautiful little daughter. I am sure you are a very proud Daddy. Just saw a new member post from Tim in Sacramento and now you in Daimond Springs. We are getting to be a substantial group here in the Central Valley and the foothills. I too am on ADV Rider and have seen your posts. You will find some of the same people here and a lot of new ones. Good group and a bit more polite that some of the back-and-forth on ADV Rider.

I am coming from a Multistrada and while I love that bike and really have had no issues it is very costly to maintain. I am looking forward to some Japanese low maintence miles

Hey Phil, nice intro. Very honorable work you do. I have a buddy who is about halfway through volunteer firefighter training right now, and for a volunteer job it sure is a lot of commitment!

Anyways, welcome!

Welcome Firefight911. looks like your right there in the middle of some of the states best roads and scenery. Did you order yours after seeing the demo bike in Roseville last weekend?

Phil,

Welcome to our little slice of paradise! I have spent some time on a couple of BMWs Ron Ayres tours and enjoyed them. But I understand that there can be issues. My choice was made for me as the dealer support in my area is spotty. I hope you find the S10 to be all that you have been liking for and look forward to your thoughts on the bike and farkles as time goes on.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!

I have an extensive background with Yamaha, having professionally road raced FZR-600s from '89-'92. I know their reliability very well and am certainly looking forward to experiencing it yet again.

Yes, I did put my deposit after pouring over it at the dealership last Saturday. I had hoped to test ride it at the San Mateo show but it was raining too much for Yamaha to let me have a go. No worries. I spent an enormous amount of time with it at the show and at the dealer. I feel fairly confident in what I'm getting will be a solid grin generating hit!

I'll ride my F8 until it gets here and then sell it unless I just can't put up with it anymore and then get rid of it. I have a formal request in for BMWNA to re-purchase it but I'm not holding my breath that they agree like they did with my K1300GT. We'll see.

Farkles, farkles, farkles that's what I'll be spending my time researching and planning for. Most likely use Givi Trekker cases. The rest is all plan and add to the list. :) :) :)

Thanks again!!!! Glad to be "home."
