Is anyone sporting the Nolan 104 or Shoei Neotec Modular Helmet. I am considering moving to a modular and am looking for a middle of the road price wise. Can't afford a Shuberth for sure. I see Nolan as a step down from Shuberth and Shoei is always a good choice for affordable quality. I like the internal tinted visor, the antifog double visor with pinlock, and it seems to have some serious airflow with minimal noise. Does anyone own either one and what kind of noise are you getting or is it reasonably quiet. I wear ear pro so it isn't a huge deal. What kind of aerodynamics are you getting on the S10? Buffeting? Do you like the chin fastener? If not why? If so, why? Any quality issues? How easy is it to flip up the full face latch with gloves on? I am also considering the Shoei Neotec, so same questions to anyone who wears one.. Thanks..

Re: Nolan 104

I like mine, the wife likes hers. pinlock works great, not sure about noise, sometimes flip up is sticky but works with gloves, wife loves visor. I chose because it's made in Italy as opposed to China. I would buy another.

I suggest you try both to see which is the most comfortable fit for your head shape.

I'm on my second Shoei Neotec, it works best for me.

I've got the N104 and like it a lot. Had the previous version before that. (The 102?). Good quality. Good fit. Kinda noisy. But I ride with earplugs anyway.

I own a AGV EVO helmet and love it, it is one of the lightest helmets on the market. However, I don't care for the external mounted sun visor, I assume it is removeable. The price is definitely right though at under $200. I will have to check into it more, THANKS Bruised.

I have both. The neotec is much nicer in my opinion. Opens and closes better. Vents much better though a little more wind noise with upper vent full open. Better quality throughout. Of corse that's reflected in the price.

You might investigate the hardness of the shield material on the Nolan. Have had 2, last purchased about 6 years ago. Shield scratched way too easy, and was replaced. I seldom use that helmet any more.

Have been in a Neotec for about two years now - great damn helmet.

First helmet I think I've ever owned where the vents did something other than make noise - yep, you can actually feel the air flow.

I always ride with earplugs, but the helmet is quiet, and the aerodynamics are what you'd expect from this price-point. Head-checks increase neither noise nor turbulence. The shield and internal visor work exactly the same as they did two years ago when I plucked it from the box.

It's pricey, but worth every penny IMHO - it is by far the most comfortable helmet I've owned, and functions just as advertised. If you're looking for a top-drawer modular and you fit the "Intermediate Oval" head shape, then I can't imagine you going wrong with the Neotec.

I bought the Nolan 3months ago, fits my head well. very comfortable and quieter than the scorpion transformer that I had previously. the vision port is quite large and the only negative may be that the shield will scratch , knowing that I am more careful in cleaning and it seems to be holding up well. it does not use d ring strap system , but uses a tab that inserts a quick release buckle. I was surprised how well it works. less buffeting than the scorpion . I like the helmet. I bought mine from revzilla , saved a ton over dealer cost... I would pick the Nolan over the scorpion , shoei is a quality helmet ive not had the chance to try one on yet....

I don't skimp on gear that works versus doesn't for sake of $. I do however feel the price versus what you get in a Shuberth is not worth it. In my research I have found that the Shoei Neotec is just as good if not better of a helmet with a tad more weight than the Shuberth. I have decided on the Shoei. Besided, it comes in Graphite which looks like an almost exact match for my Matte Grey 2013 S10. Thank you all for your input. I was especially concerned with the noise and aerodynamics moving to a modular style. Glad to hear it is reasonable.

do not neglect safety http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

many highly regarded lids offer mediocre safety performance. I wear a Nolan N90, it has held up quite well. have tried on the N104 and prefer the fit and larger eye port for my misshapen melon. Nolan does offer great safety for the money as well as being feature laden.

::026:: For the Neotec.

I have had (still have) 3 flip type lids.

I first bought a HJC R-Pha Max (what Nick Saunders used on his 50k Tenere trek) which was great except not much room for my Autocom headset, but a greta lid for the price.

I then decided to keep that as a summer / short ride lid and bought a Schuberth C3 which for me is awful, it pinched at the front, after I managed to knead the foam here it still pinches my temple and the visor will not stay in the part open position, some do find the comfy, but I would not want to recommend one after my experience.

I then went for the Neotec as the C3 was just so horrible I hate wearing it, only just bought this, but so far it seems very good, the vents work, although the front one is not as good as the Schuberth which did deliver fresh air right into your mouth / nose, the Shoei seems to fire the air up the front of the visor. The top vent does work very well at cooling the top of your head.

It is easy to open / close even with a gloved hand, and as lids go is pretty good for noise, similar to the Schuberth I think, and most importantly the visor stays up on the "first notch". The sun visor is also good and comes down plenty low enough so you do not get a "split view" like with some internal sun visors.

Not yet fitted headset, but it looks to have good sized speaker pockets.

I can add that the speaker pockets work great - I've had a Sena SMH10 hooked up since I've had the helmet.

Just got a N104 in the last couple months and like it. It's my first modular helmet (coming from Arai Profile), so cannot compare to the Neo. My melon wouldn't fit in the Neo. I have a long oval head and the Neo has a very round shape. The N104 is slightly oval and that was enough for it to be comfortable.. I haven't worn it for any long distance rides yet, but don't think fitment will be an issue.

The flip down sun shade is failry worthless. It does not come down far enough to be effective. Not a big deal since I prefer to wear sunglasses anyway. Having said that, airflow/venting is pretty good. We'll find out for real when our Texas summer kicks into high gear. So far, only seen highs in the 80's. Soon it will be triple digit for weeks on end.
