Always find it interesting how they do these tests with the Tenere loaded down with bags etc. Multi is naked and so is the GSA. The Multi would make anyone nervous in the dirt. I'll ride my S10 circles around the GSA pig in the dirt. ::26::

I've see a few tests where they took these bikes out.

Here is how it goes.

The Multi lost its back brake caliper and the boxes fell off.
The GSA kept it's brake caliper but the boxes fell off and BMW denied any responsibility.

The only bike that kept the boxes intact and didn't lose any calipers was the Super Ten so it's cheaper and easier to give the S10 pack mule duty with full braking force to haul up the weight.

It's a tough life but someone has to do it and it's always dumped on "good ol' reliable Joe"

But it is good to see a British production with a Super Ten in it. Amazing.

At 1:13 into this video they so the S10 (the only bike laden with a full compliment of panniers) starting into a pretty severe hill climb, but they don't show it cresting the hill. I would love to see it finishing the job.

Well, maybe he didn't make it to the top but was too embarrassed to show it in the video being as the bike is totally up to the challenge. :-\

Instructional DVD Review:

So I received this DVD from the UK through Touratech USA. They special ordered it for me from Touratech UK at a stupid price (almost $50) and it is in PAL format so it only play on a computer in North America, but the cover is worth it alone!

There was a recent thread requesting instructional DVD's for Adventure riding. This is pretty basic instruction, but a must for ST owners, if not because the bike is so highly featured in the exercises and on the cover! It's also fun to watch him take the ST to the edge.
Nick claims to be the youngest Brit to ever finish the Dakar race (2/4 attempts). He is not that tall, so provides all sorts of tips for shorter riders. He plans to have follow up DVD's with more advanced techniques and instruction. Although this one IS fairly basic, it still has some good nuggets and "take to the trail" tips.

Again, the ST seems to be the main bike used in the demonstrations, although he also has a GS, a Tiger Explorer, and even a knobbied Multistrada. The only drills that he uses the other bikes for are the skidding ones (front and rear tires). Obvious why that it (non-switchable ABS). At the end of the film, he states that one of the bikes "scares" him. Not sure which one, but it is followed by clips of him crashing the Explorer. If that is the one that scares him, after just recently doing 500 miles on one, I would concur. Gobs of power in a very top-heavy set up.

He seems to be the most aggressive on the ST in the "Putting to Practice" clips. It really comes across as "the" dirt bike of the bunch and he seems to be the most comfortable on it versus the other three. It would be interesting to get direct his take on it. The hill climbing he does with it is impressive.

Two of the three ST's featured in the DVD have custom paint jobs. One is red and the other one looks like Hoebster's. Anyone on the forum know who owns these?

At any rate, a fun DVD worth shelling out for if you are one that likes to get your ST dirty. Probably a little better than that GS Technique DVD that is also distributed by Touratech.

$50?!?! That's expensive to the point you should own more than 1 license. Hack and share!

Well, it IS a Touratech product. Over-engineered and over-priced. I have a few farkles from them, mainly because their office in this country is local to me and it is fun to go into an ADV store when I am in the neighborhood. There is something usually annoying about the things that I have purchased from them (besides the price): loosening adjustable windshield mount and kickstand foot (that has way too many parts). You would think they were German or something. ::025::
They do give you all sorts of free ADV magazines, calendars, and put on good rallies.

I don't know about hacking. I am two-minds on that. I sort of believe in supporting the authors/creators. It will probably be on Youtube before long, anyway.

Here in South Africa the biker magazine's also keep the S Ten on the back ground, on the latest test in a mag they tested the S Ten, GSA-LC and the 1190,

The The S Ten the only one with road based tyres and 80% of the wording is about the GSA and the 1190,, Only picture about the S Ten is where it is stuck in the mud,,, they admit that the road based tyres is a big disad for the the S Ten and that the other bikes would be worse with the same tires and that the STen is a great bike but its sad that 80 % of the article high light the 1190 and the GSA, so you have to read very carefully to see that the S Ten are a better DS bike than the rest,

All I can say is, I'm on my second S Ten and I had tested both the 1190 and the 1200 GS- LC and at the end i decided on the S Ten again,,,,,,,

If you feel like sharing the DVD with others on the board that would be cool. I've seen it done on other forums where a special tool, or something unique like that gets mailed from rider to rider. We all cover the shipping and just post back up here with tracking numbers and stuff. Not sure if you trust others with your DVD though. I'd like to be the first to borrow it if you go down that route!
